But this new era of INXS is also very exciting too, you just need to seperate the 2 as "Old World, New World"...to some fans INXS was Michael no question about that. But the 5 guys are still just as great musicians, just as they always were, they just need a voice to continue to do what they do best. The band really believe in this project they wouldnt do it otherwise, and they are really excited about it, I havent seen them this happy for a very long time... I know a lot of INXS fans on this list are really long time INXS fans as I remember the days when this place was THE place to hang out to discuss INXS back in the 90's, I used to love reading and writing emails each day...some days there was so many messages! Ah, the heady days of the INXS email list where you were greeted on a daily basis to 10+ emails in your inbox !! So, RockStar eh? Like Neil said, the curiosity factor is undoubtedly what will make most people watch (me included, but I'll not be partaking in the voting or purchasing of future album / tour tickets, it doesn't interest me as much as THAT !) Personally, I was one of the pro Jon Stevens fans when he joined the band. Saw them live with JS, and have to say he was a solid replacement, and could have done great justice to their legacy had he stuck around for a few albums and tours ('I Get Up' was a great showcase for the future potential of the band). But on the same note, you don't want someone in the band whose heart's not in it. When JS left the band, that was when they should have called it a day. Many bands have enjoyed success with new singers, I don't see why INXS should have been any different. After all, the remaining 5 are musicians - it's their jobs. But to extend the invite to a third singer.......what happens if they just use it as a launchpad for their own music career? What will the band do then? Offer it to a fourth singer (how about the RockStar runner up). Let's remember that the prize in all this is only a one album deal and tour. Such a project needs the support of all band members, and I'm a little surprised that Andrew Farriss was up for it - he always comes across as the one most precious and protective of INXS. After Jon Stevens, I would have been perfectly happy with 'new' material from the vaults every once in a while. But all the same, I wish them luck and hope they find the singer they want and enjoy any success that comes their way. So, shall we all meet up again in the 'inbox' in 8 months time ?!?!? About rockstar, i have to say that i agree with my friend Richard davis, but there is something that intrigues me, if you go to the inxs forum you will see the majority of fans are supporting it, i thought i was one of the few that didn't go along with it...I too still can't understand why on earth Andrew Farriss did let the band get into this crap reality tv, also the other members of INXS but speccially him, if you remember correctly he never did joined them on the night of the proms. I also thought that JS was perfect to INXS ( i saw them playing 5 times...what a great band) and still don't understand why they split, i wouldn't blame JS as he was patient enough, touring the world for about 3 years and all they released was a single in Australia among the re-releases and compilations, so i guess i can understand his point and i do believe his heart was with INXS, can't blame him for wanting to move forward, wich INXS clearly were still unsure. The tours with Jon Stevens surely didn't had the success the band was hoping for, very small crowds and little media interest, in my opinion INXS saw rockstar as the only and easiest way to be bigstars again, the future will tell, but i can't understand why a band like INXS suddenly becames exactly the opposite of what they always were, a passionate and true rock and roll band, that gained their audiences playing over and over again. Now they just go selecting their new singer on tv, like some commercial band would do. They should get a new singer, but why don't they do it on their own? And the main issue to me is that they need a professional singer, not a perfect stranger... In some ways it's becaming the same over and over again, we hear them saying they were never so excited about INXS like now, a new album is coming and tour...exactly like we heard every year since probably 2001... I will watch rockstar and hope that the outcame is better than i imagine, and because INXS has been my fav band for a long time, their music is surely part of my life. So i can't just ignore it. I must guiltily admit that even though I don't like the direction the band is going with this, that I have gone to the website and read the bios for the candidates. Most of these people are professional singers. Two of them fronted for bands that got contracts on decent record labels and about half of them have done studio work for some pretty well known artists. The caliber of contestants is much more respectable than what fares on American Idol. I have to admit that, for the most part, the group they selected appears to be extremely talented. Anyway, I made a comment many months ago that what INXS really needs is a group LEADER, not necessarily a new singer. I still stand by that thought. A TV show and new album in and of itself isn't going make them a band again. They need to be convinced to stop floundering around. You're right Stefan, i forgot that point...a female singer would probably change a little too much, so in the end it wouln't be INXS, anyway i think that is what the band really wants, they see it as a way to not having comparisings with Michael and a way of getting the media atention...rock and roll is what we need, i agree with Davy, INXS lacks a leader and direction, they are being driven by the dream of getting back to the top, and that is very difficult without hard work.
