NEW YORK - Reality show contestants have shown they can survive South Pacific jungles and Donald Trump's boardroom - but can they make it in rock 'n' roll? Dave Navarro, former guitarist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jane's Addiction, and TV personality Brooke Burke will host CBS' "Rock Star: INXS," produced by Mark Burnett. The show will premiere July 11, the network said Tuesday. It will begin with 15 contestants living together in a Hollywood Hills home. The winner will become the lead singer of INXS and will go on a world tour with the band, known for their hits "What You Need" and "Need You Tonight." The band has used guest vocalists since Michael Hutchence died in 1997. CBS said "Rock Star" will air three times a week. Monday will focus on contestants' relationships and activities, while Tuesday and Wednesday will feature the competition and who goes home. Navarro's not new to reality TV. His wedding to Carmen Electra was documented on MTV's "'Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen & Dave." Brooke, a mainstay in men's magazines, hosted "Wild On" and "Rank" on the E! network. I'll def. be watching the show (no doubt through my fingers as I hide my face with my hands and cringe), but I can't honestly say that INXS remains my fav band. I love their music, but don't seem to feel the passion for them that I once did, back when they were still creating new music. And why recruit a roockie wannabee when there are probably hundreds of professional artists that would want the job... I am a long time fan...since 1990, so i have to say i struggle to understand this show. I echo what you said Nancy, they are in my top three favorites for bands. I miss the music that group of 6 made. There was something magical about it. But take one of them out and replace the person and it's never the same or as good. I find myself listening to them fairly often though. I have a few INXS cd's in my car and with a CD holder that only holds 12, I hear Kick and Elegantly wasted every few weeks. I have no idea what this show will bring..... I have to say that my feelings are much like yours Nanci. I still love INXS, but the love has definitely cooled some since there is nothing new to fall in love with. I will watch the show, but it will be more to show my support of the guys than because of the "reality show" content. Personally I don't like reality shows. They took a lot of footage of people waiting in line, zooms past our feet, that sort of thing. There were about 200 people waiting to audition before the doors opened, we were the second group to go in, so I don't know how many people showed up though out the rest of the day. If nothing else, I'll watch to see if I see her audition (or my feet!). Are they still my favorite band? I've listened and loved them for 25 years. I'm using one of their songs in our school play this year. I do have them on my IPod shuffle. But out of the 130 songs I can put on there, there's only 3 songs. There's 4 from White Stripes, 5 from Drowning Pool, and I want to say there's 6 from Renegades, so no, I guess they aren't my favorite anymore. But I'll watch the show and keep my fingers crossed and maybe they'll put out some nice new music that I can add to my shuffle. Staz (still alive and around after all these years)
