From: "Richard Davis" To: Sent: Wednesday, December 10, 2003 2:18 PM Subject: INXS: INXS2 (Squared) This future release is starting to get some official exposure, so I guess it must be imminent if they're providing tasters. Personally speaking, my preference would be for 'new' releases like this featuring Michael Hutchence every once in a while as opposed to new material with a new singer, PROVIDED it's value for money (ie. not 2 new tracks on a CD with 18 others we've all heard before). Had JS stuck it out with the band for the new album, I would have gone with it as I thought he was a great frontman. It already looks like a hybrid of remixes and b-sides, so here's hoping that in addition to the cards they're showing in their hand at the moment (on thebasement.com) there'll be upwards of maybe half a dozen genuinely unreleased remixes or tracks, but absolutely no less than 4 new tracks - I think that would be taking the pi$$ (again) Anybody else got any thoughts on 'Squared' ?? I mean, why put out (again) tracks that were just released last year? of the three tracks they've previewed so far, two are from the remasters last year and the other is a remix that originally came out in 1992. nothing new so far. frankly, I'd be surprised if there were actually any NEW (previously unreleased) tracks on this disc. also, if you are going to put out an album like this, at least use the fully produced songs we hadn't heard before (jesus was a man, tight, waiting to be free, etc...) rather than demo versions of old songs that just don't have much (if any) production value to them. an album of stellar remixes blended with 4 track recordings and drum machines is just NOT going to flow very smoothly. I am with Rich and think he was a great frontman and will always remember his time with INXS and will treasure all 5 shows i was at with his vocals. I was at the webchat and Kirk said they were in a kind of limbo right now...so this means the guys will sit down and think what to do once again...and we know they take a long time, also there isn't any real promotion for an INXS big come back, i love INXS and would like to see them going on with another singer (male) and record and tour like a real band, but i wonder if anyone can replace Jon Stevens...Filling Michael's shoes was impossible, JS was a great 7th member...i think it will be hard for the next one. Also Kirk mentioned all the possibilities they had now like working with various singers and i guess everyone agrees that that wouldn't be a great decision. About Squared...i'm sure i will buy it but not sure if that will be very interesting, us the die hard fans have it all by now...although Kirk said something about EW's mix by Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim) and that would be nice, but i hope they do include several unreleased material or at least hard to find like the searching remixes from the 12's. Another thing that made me thing was the guys telling that Andrew never really wanted to go to NOTP and him not wanting to leave his kids for 2 months after so many years apart from them with all this INXS tours, understandable but is there any future tours? I mean big ones... But the question remain how many times can u release a song?? Once again its sad JS left he is a great vocalist love him from his Noiseworks days. I also believe it would be a hard job to fill JS's shoes now,as it was for him to fill Michaels... I'd love to see some new INXS stuff ... but I guess in the end its upto the guys .... they all have families and after being home for a while find it harder and harder to leave them. That I can understand also.*shrugs* I hope theres some light at the end of the INXS tunnel :) Lisa From: "Abbey Fisher" To: Sent: Sunday, December 14, 2003 5:13 PM Subject: INXS: INXS karaoke Hi everyone - hope all is well with all of you! I was wondering if anyone on this list has or knows where I can get an INXS karaoke CD. I've checked out some companies online (like Chartbusters and Sunfly) and was very disappointed with the quality of the reproduced songs. I know INXS has such great, unique music that it's difficult to try to imitate it, but if anyone has a decent version, or access to one of those machines that cuts out vocals, please let me know. I'll take just about any songs and am happy to reimburse costs or send a blank CD with postage. Any help is appreciated - THANK YOU! Please email me privately at abulous@hotmail.com. Have a blessed, happy and safe holiday season! peace, Abbey From: "Richard Davis" To: Sent: Sunday, December 14, 2003 6:23 PM Subject: RE: INXS: INXS karaoke You could try downloading INXS midi files off the internet (they're usually free) but they sound more like the pre-programmed tunes that come with a kids' Yamaha keyboard !! I do remember once reading on a sound production messageboard that one of the simplest and more effective ways of creating karaoke mixes of original music is to use a Sega Saturn games console. It has a feature which enables you to mess about with sound settings (such as bpm, pitch etc..) and you can also adjust the vocal frequency range. Do note though, it will only reduce it, not eliminate it totally so you will still hear a faint vocal in the background. To find a Saturn these days, you'd be best looking on Ebay. Could mean that the reissues are going to be released by Universal in Australia but I doubt it. Squared could be just an odd assortment of remixes of INXS' best known tracks. Certainly for most here all the tracks for download at the basement have already been released in the US via Rhino. Michael Kick Talon
