My first impression was that I as a real hardcore fan knows 150 % more than this guy. There is at the moment no release planned. The date for the best of album is the 5th december. If the record sells well maybe a tight could have a chance. No other news ! Thats the whole f....k again ... as well as the MH solo goes on rotation. No publicity no promotion no tour or whatelse. The only plus for the MH release was that I got a promo and repeated my reaction to the V2 guy. At Mercury you haven´t got the chance to get anything... so I have to buy it for a lot of money at second hand shops. But I was mostly impressed that tight hadn´t gone to the radio stations for rotation !!!! That is the problem of us real fans. We will buy all stuff but didn´t get anything. We promote them the whole time and whole life ! but are handled like each other consument. Hopefully the video game will inspire the rugrats to go out and buy INXS CDs and not guns :). Probably they will do neither though as those games tend to see them sit in packs for hours on end glued to the TV, like good music the better video games can be just as addictive. What INXS need to do now, is find one of those blockbuster films coming out in the next few months and see if they can get a track from the forthcoming album (Jon Stevens vocals) on there. I was skeptical of the song when I heard it live a few months ago, but it's definitely growing on me. it's refreshing to hear jon stevens sing a song in his own style without being compared to how michael sang it. I must say that it's definitely an INXS song, meaning that even with a new vocalist there's no doubt it's still INXS. initially I thought it sounded "too 80s" (although I like INXS' 80s stuff, I would like nothing else but to see them continue to expand their music into the future rather than stick with sounding like they're stuck in the 80s) but after listening to it a few times I think the song is using a very simple formula, yet there are hints of new ideas that INXS are expressing for the first time. the song reminds me a lot of "beautiful day" by U2, in that it has aspects of their 80s style as well as implementing some new, fresh sounds. many say that INXS no longer have a place on the radio today and that nmay be true to a certain extent, but if U2, no doubt, red hot chili peppers, etc...can still get on the radio, despite NOT sounding like every other band out there, then I still believe INXS have a chance. especially if they continue to produce songs like hungry, which seems to fit in perfectly with the songs heard on the radio by the previously aforementioned bands. I look forward to it! it seems that jon stevens is doing well to fit in with INXS' style. although I thougt he performed very well with the band when I saw them in concert this past july, I was skeptical of INXS' future with the guy and was having feelings of "it's just not the same". of course, it will never be the same, but I think it's a bit of a relief to know that he is "officially" in the band and that they are recording a new album of original material. the last thing I wanted to see was INXS touring with this guy performing their greatest hits year after year. it appears they are completely and fully moving ahead now, and that makes me very happy. we'll see how the new album sounds... After a long time lurking... Question 1: ACEB"?" A- Rolling Stones - Tinny Daggers I think that RS would do a good job with this song. That would never have the charmming of INXS's songs, but I think it would be something a little slow than INXS version and with a raw rock... making the basses and guitars appearing more and with no keyboards enviromental. C- U2 - I'm Only Looking Again, I think this song with U2 would be slower than the original one by INXS. It looks like an U2 song from Zooropa album. And I'm curious, imagining how would Bono handle this vocal. That would be very good for sure. E- Bon Jovi - Taste It This one would be a big responsability to Jon Bon Jovi. What could they do in this case ? Even thought I'm not a fanatic one and have no album of them (only MP3s), I think Bon Jovi has some very good songs. I'm trying to imagine how they would input those keyboards (characteristic of their songs) on it, cause I think they would use it to differenciate the song from the original one. Heavy guitars... wowww... very hard to figure out this song covered by them. B- Pearl Jam - Days Of Rust Two points here: the instrumental part, I think this cover would be the one most close to the original from INXS, but the vocals, it might be the most different one. This cover would be an interesting experimental song. "?" D- Oasis - Everything Hey Kick... I have to agree with Sherrianne. Are you still doing the dishes and the laundry ??? :) lol... Just kidding, but you deserved it. Question 2 I'm not sure on this one. But I would choose Communication/Earth. Why Earth ??? As I'm not a native English speaker, it is hard to express some feelings, but I think that it's because of the keyboards/piano enviromental, combined to the guitar solos. This sounds very good, like a trip, as you were in the space... and also... because of the "blue satellite"... That's all! Take care, Mobile_Fly "Don't wanna fall in love, I want to rise in love. It's been about two years since I was last on the list when I was a VERY dedicated poster-check out Neal's archives if you want proof! The volume became to much but I didn't realize you could go to digest format now. Anyways, hello to all the listers on here that have been around since 95 or so when I first signed up. And a big hello to all the people who have been on since 2002 too! Anyways, for my first post in several years, I thought the people here might be interested in my band's song about Michael. I do a good chunk of the songwriting in my band Copper Ocean and about a year ago, I remember the story of Bono talking about how Stuck In A Moment was written to Hutch but he felt guilty cause he knew he couldn't get a response. Well, lyrically, it got my creative juices flowing and I just thought 'what would Michael say' and what came out was a song called "This Is Not The Way". I like to think that for people who know about the U2 song, the Michael/Geldof thing and Michael and Bono's friendship, the imagery shouldn't be too hard to figure out. I'm not saying that I speak for him or know exactly what would happen...just that it sparked my interest as a gigantic fan of both bands. Anyways, if you'd like to listen to it, go to www.copperocean.com and click on MP3s; it is off of our album In The Middle We Met. Here's the lyrics with some explanation for those who are interested. I hope the details here show that I am not just trying to plug my band and that this song was spawned from genuine affection for Hutch and Bono, and share it with people who may understand. Verse 1: a brief retort to Bono's message You may not be afraid/of the lies of this world Your shield is thicker than mine/I let in what they threw Ten minutes is what you asked/a thousand years in my eyes Yes there's something in the way/the sneak in when hands are tied Prechorus: More response to Bono's song Do you want me to say I'm sorry? I'm sorry I can't explain it all Chorus: I can't say but my time has run Bubbling over and spilling on I can't say why I sat on the sun Or if what happened was wrong This is not the way it's supposed to be This is not what I wanted to see You know well enough what they've done to me This is not the way it's supposed to be Verse 2: A slight acknowledgement that I am writing for Hutch though I can't fully comprehend what he is thinking. Second half is about the Sydney Popmart show and Tigerlily Here is is he speaks for me/my old friend or one i touched A voice in his head a need to say/though you know he can't feel as much I know when you sang to them/the weary wash I bring tonight One regret, one thing left/the only thing I can't bring light Prechorus and Chorus Verse 3: A bit about Hutch's legacy. The last line is in response to Bono and Hutch's conversation about how they agreed suicide was stupid. My fire will burn forever/my thoughts here will last I am joined by the one who caused/one regret from my past Yes I'm stuck here in my moment/it's something you can't push me through I heard the words you said/they weren't there when time left my side Prechorus/chorus I hope you enjoy it! Michael did that "odd" cover of the Rolling Stones tune "Under My Thumb", it surprises me that there isn't more covers of Stones tunes. If you can find a bootleg with the song Time from the current tour (with JStevens) the start of the song covers something Bowie did. There's (MH) Red Hill, and I'm not sure if the King is Gone (No Talking Just Head) is actually a cover? Some of the more disappointing aspects of the cover issue, is the covers that might have been...............the Credence Clearwater Revival Tribute album which fell through with INXS pencilled in for two songs, Run to the Jungle..and the other escapes me for the moment. The remaining Doors members apparently also wanted to work with Michael, not nec for covers but some original stuff. Nothing on tv was confirmed here yet at that point, but when I got up and logged online, my world simply fell apart. There wasn't much sleep happening after that and there was no way I could go into work Saturday morning. My husband was as compassionate as he could be, but I had a need to be with my friends. Kris, and our other best INXS buddy, Joan, took separate buses to my house so we could all be together that day. As many tears as I cried for the loss of Michael, I also cried as many for what I imagined would be the loss of the future of my favorite band. For as much as I adored Michael and knew no one could replace him, I had also met the five surviving members and had as much love and respect for each of them. The thought of there being no more INXS, no new music or more shows, was akin to torture for me. The trips my friends and I had made to see the band, the times meeting them, were some of the very best times in my life. With that I just want to say that I saw the band perform in NYC on Tuesday. I had to work on Saturday morning, so I was unable to take him, but my wife Tammy was able to go on the outing with him. When I was driving home from work on Friday evening, I knew our house would be quiet, since Tammy and our son would have already left to go on the camping trip at a local park. I decided to stop by a music store and pick up a cd, since I never really had quiet time to sit on the couch and listen to some music. At the store, I found a rare item, an INXS bootleg "import". I would have loved to listen to it, but it had a $22 price tag, so I thought that was a little steep. I left the store and went home to listen to other INXS cds that I already had. While listening at home, I kept on thinking about that import at the store, and that I must have it! I knew it would now be close to closing time, so I raced back t! here, and fortunately they were almost ready to close, and my find was still there. This time, I gladly handed over the $22 bucks, and went home with my prize. I was so happy to have this, and listened to it all the way up until the time I needed to go to sleep. I remember feeling so at ease and satisfied that I had found a band that I love to listen to so much, and what an incredible front man they had. I actually had been upset with Michael since seeing him at the Sunrise, Florida concert a couple of months earlier. Michael was so extremely high on something that night, was having a hard time walking and talking straight, and all he seemed interested in was making out with as many girls as he could. Incredibly, he still had put on a great show, but I just got the impression that he wasn't there to entertain me for my dollar, but was going through his own "love fest" of girls he constantly searched for to make out with in the first few rows, all night long. Needless ! to say, two months had now gone by, and I had accepted him. ! I realized he was who he was, and that he was an outstanding performer, excellent singer, and someone whose talent had made me very content. When I woke up the next morning, I got ready for work. The first thing I did was turn on the TV to the local news, and that's when I first saw the horrible image- a big picture of Michael with the words "Rock Star Suicide" next to him. I could not believe it. I know everyone who's reading this can share the state of mind that I was in at that moment. The worst part was that I was all alone. The only other INXS fan that I knew was my wife, and she was at the park (no cell phones at that time in our lives!). I was devastated, but needed to go to work. My drive to work actually took me right past the park that my family was camping at. Tammy knew this, and made it a point to wake up early and wait for me to drive by. I naturally looked over at the park as I went by, and was thrilled to see my wife and son waving at me! They were behind a tall chained fence, about fifty feet away from the road, so I quickly pulled over and stood by my car and shouted the horrible news. Tammy was so shocked, she cupped her hands over her mouth and turned away momentarily, and I could tell it hit her hard. I was running late and needed to go, so we yelled out our "love you's" and I drove off. The image of her holding her hands like that is something I'll never forget. I still can't believe it really happened. When I got to work, a couple of people knew that I was a fan, and mentioned the news to me. I didn't want to let on just how much it mattered to me, so I had to keep that all inside. Thank goodness I was able to find my way onto the list within a week or so. That's my story, sorry for the length! It's been very interesting reading all of your experiences, and hope more people come forward to share! Take care, Dennis PS Laurie I owe you some emails; haven't forgetten you! From: "Michael & Sherrianne Talon" To: Sent: Sunday, November 24, 2002 2:52 AM Subject: Re: INXS: Where were you? I remember that weekend quite well, I was over at a friends place........and I became violently ill as if I couldn't breath (this was prior to the news and the event I believe)...... I considered going to the hospital, but was somehow aware it had nothing to do with the chronic health condition I suffer from. Later I managed to sleep but I had a nightmare where a radio announcer was saying this is INXS' last single, the music in my nightmare was then what I would consider quite poor really. It was written for the same reasons as Searching but it wasn't Searching (if you get my meaning). Later the next day I was talking to my friend with the radio going in the background and of course INXS comes on.....odd thing though there were people talking over the top of the music (Never Tear Us Apart and Just Keep Walking)........I turned the volume up apprehensively...........and after hearing a few words of what was being said (sympathy for the "kid").......I punched the stereo button while my teeth were clenched, hence disabling it..........after a brief conversation with my friend, he was wondering how Michael died etc......to which I responded "I don't really care", my friend sensed that my mood was significantly left of centre and so I left as at that moment, all I wanted was to be alone with the Elegantly Wasted album (my fave song Shake the Tree) and my own stereo. Later I figured out that had to be the reason I was sick, and also explained the nightmare. The song I had in my nightmare has since grown on me and I now play it (acoustic guitar/vocals) as best as I can remember (a la Tenacious D LOL)..............one thing I can tell you the song ends dissonantly and appropriately out of tune. I remember having driven across West Texas to San Antonio because my husband and I were going to the U2 Popmart concert the next day. I turned on the tv while waiting for my husband to get ready to go down to the Riverwalk when the news came on CNN. I remember the blond lady announcer's eyes filling with tears as she read the story. I started crying and when my husband came out I just said Michael's dead and he totally understood. After we sent to supper I went into a very old church and lit a candle for Michael as I have every time I get to the area. Michael wrote on our lives with big bold strokes. I have been surprized how much I still think of him and miss him. Shivaun From: To: Sent: Sunday, November 24, 2002 8:56 PM Subject: Re: INXS: Where were you? Isn't it strange the way our minds work sometimes? I haven't been online for days and today before I sat down at the computer I was compelled to go get a CD to listen to (which I've never done before). Having recently gotten "The Best Of....." that was the one I chose, not even thinking about the fact that it was 5 yrs ago.....has it really been so long?, it seems like just yesterday! Sitting here reading everyone's memories and reliving my own....it still hurts just as much as it did when I first heard the terrible news that sent my world into an emotional whirl. Like Leia I became temporarily obsessed, but my obsession was in finding out anything I could about how and why Michael had died because I just couldn't believe what they were saying. After a lot of reading, prayer, and reflection I finally accepted it, although not easily. Sometimes its still hard to believe, even after this long.........reality can be so cruel!!!! Ahh the raging controversy that also burns on INXS.com, his tech filled in for him at the Bali Benefit NYC, no real explanation from the band.......somebody specified personal reasons for him not attending. Kick From: "Brian the Rice" To: Sent: Saturday, November 30, 2002 8:38 PM Subject: RE: INXS: where is Garry??? Yes, there have been many theories and claims as to Gary's mysterious absence, but no acknowledgement of it by INXS.com, except for one fan's remark on the Bali Benefit page that Gary was "unable" to be there, or some such. What are the varies explanations given by different fans who said they talked to the band members themselves? Let's see, A) Gary was very sick and throwing up. That was the first reason, although I didn't understand why that would mean he'd have to miss the entire tour; B) He was Christmas shopping in London (but again, to miss the ENTIRE tour???); and C) He has personal, unspecified family issues that demand his attention right now. Obviously to me, I would go with C. Whatever those reasons are is for Gary himself to deal with, so I don't need to know those reasons. But I wish SOMEBODY within the INXS apparatus would at least acknowledge his absence publicly and just say that while Gary regrets missing the tour, other matters must take precedence right now. And I would like to know a little bit about the "honorary" eighth member, if you will, who's been filling in for Gary. Hey, you got me! I bought the webcast from the Dominican Republic, and since they had a major problem with the internet hook up, they didn't get the entire show loaded for viewing until two nights ago, which turned out to be very decent in quality, with a few exceptions where the sound fades out too much, especially in the beginning. Anyway, they had several really good shots of the bassist, who has long dark hair. They didn't introduce him during the show, unfortunately, even to the point during the middle of What You Need, when Jon S was introducing the band, and he introduced the bassist as "Gary Garry"! By the way, their performance of Baby Don't Cry was great, although I suspect they had the back up vocals from the studio album to help the chorus.
