Well, it's been a while since I posted anything serious and I had to post my FIRST ever INXS concert experience and my SECOND concert experience. I was going to wait until after all the shows, but I just couldn't wait. I am still on cloud 9 and it's still fresh in my memory. I've been waiting almost 20 years for this!!!! As some of you know, I have been experiencing some pretty heavy health problems. I wasn't even sure I would have been able to attend these shows. Thank god my surgery went well and I got the go ahead from my doctor and I was ready to go. :-) Wahoo!! All I had to do now was just count down the days until my FIRST ever INXS show. Beacon Theatre, 24.June.2002. The day started out with some pretty heavy emotions. You know, your typical, nerves and tears. I was just so happy to be alive and that the day I've been for had finally arrived. My friends and I arrived in NYC and we walked around for a bit. We went to a diner to get a bite to eat before the show. Me, full of nerves, as usual, only had a bagel, because it was all I could eat. :-) So, after we got done eating, we headed over to the Beacon. I picked up our After show Passes (THANKS to a special someone ;-). The passes just made me nerves just a little worse. haha. So, we get to our seats and we wait. All of a sudden a big BOOM comes over the speakers and Precious Heart starts playing. Oh wow. I will admit, as soon as the guys came on the stage, I lost it. You have to understand, I was REALLY skeptical at first to see INXS, because Michael wasn't there. I had a real hard time dealing with it. That all changed as soon as Jon Stevens came out and started singing. HOLY COW!! Yes, the tears kept coming, but they were tears of joy. I could feel Michael's presence. It was pure closure for me. The guys were awesome. The show just totally rocked. :-) I was really impressed. The guys backstage too, the ones I met that night, were pure gentlemen, and were so nice. It was a real pleasure. PNC Art Centre, Friday, 28.June.2002 My nerves that day were much better and I was still on cloud 9 from Monday. Wow! How could the guys beat such a great performance? I mean, the Beacon was such a great show? So, we all drove down to the PNC Art Centre Again from NYC and got our passes (thank you again to another certain person, ;-) and we headed on down to our seats. We waited again for the show to come on. This time the show was different. WOW!! This show totally rocked!! I mean, NEW JERSEY rocked!!! The guys loved the crowed!! You could totally tell. The crowd loved Jon. It was so awesome. The tribute to Michael the other night was awesome and so was this tribute again to Michael. I know it's the same, but it's just so beautiful and each time, it just a wonderful feeling seeing it everytime. :-) I loved this show!! I've been to a lot of concerts in my life, but I would have to say for sure, this show BY FAR, has got to be my all time FAVOURITE!! Oh my god!!! WOW!!! They were so incredible. I am so impressed in how they treat their fans at these shows. I mean, they get the crowd so into it. It's incredible. It's so moving. I am still speechless. I had the time of my life. Now I just have to wait until Saturday for Foxwoods. Will I post again?? haha... It's up to you guys!!! :-) I am sorry, but I had to share my joy!! I've waited so long for this. It was worth the wait, but yes, I wish I had seen them perform with Michael. We won't go into that. Guys, you ROCK!!! Thanks for making my nights very enjoyable!!!! I had the time of my life and so did my friends!!! THANK YOU!!! Sorry to everyone I didn't see in Holmdel. Aivi and I had car troubles and MISSED THE CONCERT! I was sitting at the concession stand crying bitterly when Tommy and Abby appeared out of the crowd to cheer me up. Next we ran into Kris and Lynda and Marlo and Dee. I even saw Jeanette and several other friends from NYC. And of course the fabulous Dutchie! It was like an INXS fans reunion! So at least I got to hear how the show was. But then came New Hampshire!!! Wow!! This was Aivi and Tommy's first time seeing INXS on this tour. We had front row "seats," standing right behind Kris in front of the stage. I realized that even though cameras were forbidden, once INXS took the stage there was no way a security guard could get within twenty feet of me, so I whipped it out. The show was great. They were super charged. But the best part came afterwards. I figured if I hung around Kris and Lynda long enough (not that I wouldn't have anyway!! LOL!!) someone might mistake me for someone who deserved an after show pass. Tommy came up with a fistfull of teeshirts and started saying, "let's go! They want to kick us out!" But I am damned stubborn and we just all stood our ground. Eventually security got disgusted with all of us (about 20 people) refusing to leave, complete with outrageous excuses why we deserved to stay and tons of name dropping. So they herded us into a little area of the club with tables and chairs, and cleaned out the rest of the place. We just sat there praying someone would grant us those precious passes, but as time went by, no one came out with the passes. Still, I was going to sit there until they bodily threw me out, and Aivi and Tommy were game for anything. Suddenly, the last thing I expected happened. Andrew appeared!! I turned to my right to grab Aivi and saw Timmy just over his shoulder. Within a few minutes they were all out there and we were talking to them, laughing with them and gettting stuff signed and pictures taken. Tommy was like a kid in a candy shop, running from band member to band member, chatting them up like he'd known them his whole life. I really admire his ability to establish an instant rapport with people. So Aivi and I are having a conversation with Andrew about the sad state of American music. Andrew is agreeing, saying, "all they have is alternative music, but alternative to what?" Aivi goes, "music!" and we laugh. Tommy comes busting in and yells, "rabbit, you have to tell Andrew your theory on bootlegs!" Cripes! He would remember that. I was just kidding when I suggested I would blurt out one of my free-market theories. So I had to start in. Andrew kindly listened, then said, "the record company doesn't like bootlegs; I don't like bootlegs." But we started telling him about how we only trade, not sell since it is not our intellectual property, and how many people have been brought together on the listserv by INXS. It was a desperate segue, but it worked. Andrew was happy to hear about all the love affairs and friendships that have developed because of INXS. Heck, that's how Tommy and I met, on the listserv, and now we're best friends. BTW, I finally had a good chance to see Jon Steven's eyes. They look blue onstage, but up close they are greenish blue. Very unique colour. We finally got kicked out after who knows how long. As I was going out the doors, I realized I was walking right next to Garry! I said, "what, they're kicking you out too?" and realized the whole band was going out the back doors with us to the tourbus. It was a fantastic night. Jeez, these last weeks have been exciting!! It's from a fabu, well known website that obtains all kinds of documents through the freedom of information act and who knows what other sources. There is a contract from the Full Moon Dirty Hearts Tour (I think, the date is really tiny.) It spells out all INXS' wants and needs for various venues. You've got to read it; it will crack you up!!! I can tell you, it was Michael drinking the wine because they all drank beer on this tour. They also appear to have switched from Heineken to Coronas on and off stage. http://www.thesmokinggun.com/backstagetour/inxs/inxs1.html Cheers, Leah From: "Ashlynne F" To: Sent: Wednesday, July 10, 2002 12:43 PM Subject: Re: INXS: What INXS requires backstage i was only able to read the first page but it's cool how they looked out for the fans!! i'll read the rest later. Firstly I better introduce myself, My name is Nicky McMillan I'm male, 20 years of age from the UK. I've been a fan since 98, I turned down the chance to see the band play with my parents in Newcastle in 97 probably the biggest regret I have. Just really just wanted to share my excitement at the prospect of seeing INXS of the first time in December. I've got tickets to see 3 shows. I'm going to the Glasgow, Manchester & Newcastle shows with the possibility of adding a 4th if I can make the last show in London. Got front row seats for Newcastle, 2nd block seats for Manchester. I'm looking forward to the Glasgow show the most mainly because it has a standing section. Will most probably get to the Glasgow venue pretty early that day so I can secure myself the best position I can, can't wait for that :) December seems such a looooooong way off. For scans of my Newcastle tix go here.. http://hometown.aol.co.uk/nickymcmillan182/index.html I received them on Thursday surprisingly enough considering I only booked them on Monday! :) Still awaiting the other 2 tix to come in. I'm not a big fan of Blondie so that should be interesting. Wished we got Simple Minds to cause they rocked the last time i saw them this year. Roll on December!!! Nicky From: To: Sent: Saturday, July 13, 2002 1:03 AM Subject: RE: INXS: INXS FOXWOODS Hi Everyone, I will try to keep this as short as possible but it was an event which I really never thought could be duplicated!! I (we) have seen INXS many times over the years and have never left a show feeling short-changed,This group of performers, the Band have excelled every time we attended a show, but this one was a bit special,as I mentioned before I was a bit skeptical with Jon Stevens replacing our beloved Michael.Truth being no one ever could as Jon himself told me backstage after the show at a meet and greet (Thank you Street Team for the opportunity) He and the rest of the group all knowthat and don't deny it. All this aside I believe this was a brilliant selection not as a fill in but a truly fantastic addition to the band. Now I must say I might have had a Flashback!! 5 yrs ago my daughter was brought up on stage by Michael during the encore of Suicide Blonde along with others and finished up with Don't Change,So to speak she had her moment of fame a dance on stage with Michael and the band, needless to say she was on Cloud Nine for quite sometime!! And bang we were as devastated as any true fan was at the time when 2 months later Michael left us,I still am open to debate. Fast forward July 6,2002 The Foxwoods resort, never in our wildest dreams did we ever expect to see the best live R&R show on the face of the earth together again. Now I must admit my wife had seen them the previous week in NJ and we were stunned by the performance.Like a couple of star struck kids we talked about them every day knowing we were going to see them next week in CT,through all of this my daughter managed to get her son (our grandchild) a sitter for 2 days and ventured the 300 mile trip with the love of her life. Now here we are at the resort all waiting for the show to start (Thank you Dutchie) and I better be correct with my details of the show a week before (Whew a heavy burden when someone will take your word and travel that far to see the Band) The show starts and bang there we are right up at the stage,I am getting high fives from my wife and daughter telling me how great the show is and how well Jon Stevens fits the bill,we are all in heaven,as the show reaches it's encore and they get in to Don't Change,Jon comes over to my daughter and starts singing to and with her,she winds up on stage and get's to sing along with him as Tim on guitar moves over and joins in.This is my Flashback!! After the show we went backstage and met the the greatest people in the world (INXS) they were and are the most down to earth group of stars anyone can imagine. We got some great photo's which we hope to share with you soon, and we left with a feeling of total fullfillment. I am sure I will have more comment as time goes on but till then,Take Care & God Bless!! Debbie Harry has a great voice and the drummer is great, too, but overall they didn't have a lot of "energy", and played too many songs I didn't know, and left out a couple of main songs like "Tide is High", "Atomic", and "In the Flesh". I mention this obviously because they will be co-headlining with our boys in December, and let me tell you, they don't want any part of following INXS on stage; they should just let INXS headline that whole tour. I donīt have cable tv, and unfortunately my friend who has it couldnīt record the whole thing, but she recorded most part of it, itīs a at about 15 minute tape of an 25 orginal one. It features an interview with Kirk and both Jons before the Sao Paulo gig. There are some bits of the show too, as far as i can remember there are snippets of NTUA, OS,NET,beautiful girl, sugar, maybe one more, all from Sao Paulo. Itīs great! :) And another thing that reached my hands last week is a 30 minute special with them on Rock in Rio II (1991). It only features full length songs, unfortunately itīs not the whole show :( it has, as far as i remember: shine like it does, faith in each other, on my way, tiny daggers, never tear us apart, donīt change. the quality isnīt as good as the cable tv one because it was recorded on tape in 91, then it was copied to 2 other tapes before coming my way :( I can make copies of these two specials, if anyone wants. but there are some problems... The tapes are recorded in Pal-M format, I donīt have how to transform it into NTSC or any other format, as most of our videos only allow us to see in NTSC, not record...but maybe someone here can... I canīt make many copies because i donīt have two vcrs... :( If anyone wants any of these, send me an e-mail, we can either arrange a trade or a b&p, as i wonīt sell any of these :) Clarissa From: To: Sent: Wednesday, July 17, 2002 7:59 AM Subject: INXS: VOTE INXS - Vote INXS - Need You Tonight in the Pepsi 80's challenge http://www.dietpepsi.ca/dietpepsi/tunes_pop.asp Currently Duran Duran's Hungry Like A Wolf is walking away with it. I don't remember INXS back catalogue CD sales skyrocketing either. However, I do agree Michael was at the top of the list of the hottest and sexiest of all musicians. There was an old Rolling Stone cover story featuring Jim Morrison. The cover line accompanying the photo of Jim read "Jim Morrison. He's hot. He's sexy. He's dead." Obviously the article dealt with the celebrity which still lingered long beyond the death of Morrison. I suppose VH1 is copying this infamous magazine cover line for their All Access segment when they refer to the 'hottest, sexiest, deadest stars' - but it's a tacky thing to put in a press release.
