This is just as annoying as Modonna's tickets last year only being available to AOL people for the first day or so. By the time the non-AOLers could buy, they were gone. Frankly, I'm just not willing to spend hundreds (or thousands!) of dollars to see most people out there (only 1 band is worth it to me, and I'm sure many of you can guess who...) I'd like to see them do something similar to the way Barenaked Ladies sells tickets. Their fan club (The Ladies Room) has a special number you can call to buy LR tickets. These are guaranteed to be in the first 3 rows of the venue, and are sold at the same price as all other seat - no markup. They manage the seat assignments by just doling them out randomly. Everyone calls and buys tickets for a certain show, then a few days before, names are matched with seats - no matter when the person called. Then, you pick up your tickets at Will Call, and away you go, down to the front rows. I've bought tickets through them many times and have always been pleased. And, best yet, I've never seen the Ladies from further back than the 3rd row :-) Oh, if only other bands could be as organized as this! I don't think By My side was written without inner feelings. I can understand leaving certain songs out, and concentrating on more commercially successful periods of back catalogue being drawn from, and tend to think that is where the band are coming from. As you may know, I'm flying out from Washington, DC to San Diego, California to meet my friend and yours, Laurie, and we will be seeing INXS at a small venue there. We are also going to team up with Kris and Lynda, who are flying out from NYC. I believe we are actually going to get to meet the band, so I am completely beside myself. I have been pondering for a while on what to talk to them about, other than the usual stuff: I'm your greatest fan, I've loved you for years, your music is so great, you're so cute! I think I might try to talk about how I think bootlegs are a good idea and should be viewed by the band as public relations, since no one but the biggest fans buy bootlegs and we already have everything the band put out officially. Or maybe I'll just try to go home with Jon for the night! LOL!! I'm definitely going to ask Timmy to show me exactly what those opening chords are to Suicide Blonde!!!! Oh, yeah, and this is if I get anywhere near them. After all, I'll be in line behind every other INXS fan and we are a super dedicated bunch!!!!!! WHO KNOWS!!!!!! Hungry, was one of the best moments of the concert for me. Jon was brilliant singing it. This is such a passionate song like the ones from `Kick` era. They showed with this that they have energy to rock again for a long time. Michael might be glad (wherever he is now) that the band is trying to go on. And they will do a great tour... Marie-B, waiting for the guys to come to Paris From: "Clarissa Wyler" To: Sent: Thursday, May 30, 2002 1:10 PM Subject: INXS: Hi everyone :) I tried to post this earlier, but i donīt know if it got through or not, iīve been having trouble on trying to post to the list :( itīs a little report i wrote weeks ago from the Rio and Sao Paulo shows. ____________ Sorry about being too late to send this report, but I only got home yesterday evening and I needed to rest, I feel like Iīm broken... :) I went to the Rio de Janeiro show last wednesday and São Paulo on friday :) Rio: About the venue: ATL Hall is one of the largest indoor place that holds shows in Latin America, it holds at about 10,000 people, but as the INXS gig had seats and general admission the capacity was reducet to 4,000 people, i believe. The front of the stage was G.A. and there were seats from the middle to the back of the room. The place was built under a shopping mall, so when you walk in the shopping and thereīs a show or soundcheck you can feel the ground shaking, really cool! :) The show was supposed to begin at 9:30 PM, when I got there, at 6:00 PM, there was no one to enter, the gates only "opened" at 8:00 PM. We got into there at about this time and there was only me, my sister, a friend of mine and two people... what an impressive crowd!! :) We got nervous :) We found that strange, even stranger was the fact that until 9 PM something there was still only the five of us there... then other people started to get in... They (the venue) had locked us inside there, we entered and then they closed the gates... I believe it was only half packed :( but the media started announcing the gig one week early and tickets were pricey... :( The show actually started at about 10:50 PM. they played near 2 hours, it ended 12:40 PM. I wrote the set list down from someone who got one, then i got one myself at São Paulo. The show started with Precious Heart blasting on the speakers while the lights were still on. Then Andrew got onstage alone, sat down, started playing BY MY SIDE and sung the first verse. It was something really beautiful and emotional to see. Heīs got a beautiful voice :) Then Gary got onstage and stood there in the shadows as the lights were all in Andrew. Then Kirk, Jon and Tim got onstage and started playing in the shadows. Then Jon S. got onstage, all the lights turned on and he got the lead volcals and finished the song, really cool!!!! :) Next song was NEW SENSATION, this song sounds much better personaly live than in any live video/cd :), then they played LISTEN LIKE THIEVES, which I was not expecting at all :) All of these three songs were played one straight after the other with no time for you to take a breath :) the Jon S. talked a bit to us and they played ORIGINAL SIN, it was done quite similar to the Live Baby Live version. Then they introduced to us a new song, itīs called SUGAR. on the set list itīs written sugar/funkster I dunno why :) Andrew play guitar on this one. Itīs a great song, the bass is louder, itīs got a catchy melody and it makes you wanna dance :) i thought it was similar (not equal) to some of the pre-listen like thieves songs. I loved it :) Kirk play sax on it. Then they played NOT ENOUGH TIME, gotta love this song :) Jon S. did a kind of sing along on this one and he got the whole crowd singing :) Mystify was played next, it was a bit lost between the songs... I believe it should have been played in the end of the set :) Dissapear followed, it was so beatifully played... :) Then Tim, Kirk and Jon S. sat down on Jon S.īs PAs (heīs got three) and Gary was standing right next to them, they did BEAUTIFUL GIRL (am I the only one who doesnīt care abou this song?;) ) Then they played SHINE LIKE IT DOES in an acoustic format. Kirk moved to the center of the stage, sang and played acoustic guitar, Andrew moved to Kirkīs right, sang background vocals and played acoustic as well and Jon Farriss moved to Kirkīs left and played a kind of instrument that I canīt recall the name in english right now and sang background vocals as well, the rest of the band went backstage, then they came bake and played NEVER TEAR US APART, Kirk did that solo standing behind Jonīs drums, it was funny :) Then they played TIME and TASTE IT followed ( I love this song... :) ) during this one Jon S. did another sing along :) . Another new song followed, itīs name is HUNGRY. I like this one a bit more than Sugar. It has great guitars, catchy lyrics and choruses and I loved it, canīt explain much better than this... itīs a potential song :) It sounds fresh and new, you know... ;) Itīs got no sax, itīs a heavier song and very Rock nīRoll. Then they played KISS THE DIRT, wow! NEED YOU TONIGHT/MEDIATE followed, it was time to breathe a little bit in Mediate before they killed us with BITTER TEARS, KICK, DEVIL INSIDE and WHAT YOU NEED to finish the set. It was very energetic, you could barely breathe, sing and jump around at the same time :) Then we got the encore :) The two Jons got onstage together playing two percussion instruments and jamming around, then the rest of the band got onstage and they played THE STAIRS then they played THE ONE THING, a really cool version, gotta love this song...:))) SUICIDE BLONDE followed and DONīT CHANGE closed the show. I was front row center. They had a big screen behind them and where they were showing various images while they were playing. I didnīt pay much attention to it, most of them were symbols and colours or images with no connection with each other. It was really cool on Donīt Change because it had several phrases written, but i couldnīt read most of them, they were being showed very fast... :( They did a Michael Hutchence tribute on NTUA, the big screen showed lots of scenes from Michael, him laughing, in action, backstage, on some videoclips, all in black & white. I couldnīt see much of it, it affected me very much, it was a bit painful to watch it while they were playing, I couldnīt concentrate much neither on the video or in the band :( and in São Paulo I thought I would have a heart attack because I couldnīt stop crying although I tried to.. I guess iīm too emotional... :) The band was in fine form :) Kirk was a bit more "eletric" than usual :) Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves to the fullest. Gary was jumping and running around like itīs hard to describe... :)) he didnīt stop a single second :) Andrew was a bit quiet, Tim was running around as usual and Jon was funny to watch :) About Jon Stevens: I liked the guy very much, he fits really well in the band. Heīs an excellent performer, heīs very sympathetic, and when you look at him onstage it seems heīs been part of the band since the beggining. Heīll never replace Michael and he doesnīt seem to try to. heīs got his own vocal style, you canīt judge much from the INXS songs they play because he tries to achieve every single note and tempo perfectly, but on the new songs you can easily tell the difference. São Paulo: I went to São Paulo on Friday 17th. The gig on the 16th was cancelled :( I was going to both shows :( Iīve never been to São Paulo before, itīs an enourmously big city, Rio (where I live) is a big city but São Paulo is way bigger :) but everything went fine. I bought my tickets in rio and had to exchange them for the real tickets there, so me and my sister arrived in SP at about 15:00, changed the tickets, got to our motherīs friendīs apartment, then we went to see the show. Arrived there late, at about 8:30--9:00 PM, the show was supposed to start at 9:30 PM, it was general admission, it actually begun at 10:00 PM. I was front row next to Tim. It was excellent :) The place was not packed, the venue (Via Funchal) was way smaller than ATL Hall, maybe there was the same quantity of people there, I canīt tell for sure... The set list was pretty much the same, with a few changes it was: PRECIOUS HEART BYMY SIDE NEW SENSATION LISTEN LIKE THIEVES ORIGINAL SIN SUGAR NOT ENOUGH TIME (on this song the big screen shows waves and surf scenes, whatīs the relation? ;) ) DISSAPPEAR BEATIFUL GIRL (this time they got together on Jonīs drums, it was a beautiful momente... Kirk, Jon S. and Tim were seated there, Gary sat down on the amplifier) SHINE LIKE IT DOES (same thing, Kirk sang, and he made some mistakes on the lyrics :) ) NEVER TEAR US APART HUNGRY NEED YOU TONIGHT/ MEDIATE BITTER TEARS KICK DEVIL INSIDE ------------------- ENCORE THE STAIRS WHAT YOU NEED SUICIDE BLONDE DONīT CHANGE This means São Paulo show had 2 songs less than Rio (KTD e 1 thing) Tim was jumping and running around a lot more than Rio, Jon S. seemed he was a little bit more at home, Jon and Kirk were the same, Gary was a bit less "eletric" and Andrew was a bit happier :) At the Rio gig, Jon S. could sing all of the songs without making mistakes, but in São Paulo he lost totally the tempo and lyrics to the second half of bitter tears :) and when he tried to fix it up was worse :) but it was funny to see :) Heīs a courageous guy. he often gets out outta the stage and shake hands with us on the front row, most "rockstars" are afraid to do it in Brasil because they think that weīre crazy and weīll bite them :) Very few of them do it :) Tim did it once in São Paulo, but not in Rio :) There was a sing along on this show but I canīt recall which song... :( maybe it was in what you need... There are some things that I can see if I can scan: In Rio I tried to get a set list and when I talked to the roadie he gave me the first sheet of paper he saw, I thought it was the set list, but itīs a handwritten (donīt know who wrote it) lyric for Hungry, the new song. I can sacan and send it in jpg. :) Iīve got Rio set list (itīs a long story, I got it in SP) :) Itīs a printed sheet of paper :) The tickets, if anyone likes collecting those... Unfortunately I didnīt have a camera with me :( I couldīve take great pics... especially from rio, where the distance from the protection thing and the stage was less than a step... :( if anyone is interested, drop me a line :) (wyler@bridge.com.br) Clarissa From: To: Sent: Thursday, May 30, 2002 2:24 PM Subject: INXS: tour Hi, I live in St. Louis, and I want to go to Summerfest in Milwaukee.
