LONDON, Dec 12 AAP - Pop princess Kylie Minogue says she is still visited by former lover Michael Hutchence, who killed himself in bizarre circumstances in 1997. Minogue claims she received a visit from the former INXS lead singer on the morning of his funeral, but hasn't had one "for a little while". "I don't know where he is most of the time, unless he visits," she tells next month's issue of The Face magazine. "I haven't for a little while, but I do, and I did on the morning of his funeral. "I've never gone into detail because it's too personal but I had a real amazing experience - just a feeling and a reaction in my body. I felt he was saying 'it's OK'. "It wasn't goodbye. It was comforting. I feel really lucky and thankful when he comes by." Hutchence was found dead in a Sydney hotel room in November 1997, hanging by the neck from a belt tied to the door. It was reported that Minogue had said "Michael made me sexy" during their relationship in the early 1990s when her image transformed from "girl next door" to raunchy sex siren. She tells The Face that despite her sexy image - she poses on the magazine's cover wearing nothing other than underpants and boots - the reason she has shot back up the charts is because the public feels safe with her. "People have known me so long, I'm like safe sex," she says. "There's nothing domineering about me. You could put someone else in the same outfit and same pose and it would be read a completely different way. "It's like I'm winking and I'm not winking." They don't say much , maybe just their name or a couple of words and they seem to need to use a computer to pick up the voice patterns and maybe slow them down a bit as they appeared to be a bit fast and unintelligable to me. I AM SAD TO SEE ANOTHER ROCK STAR'S LIFE TAKEN BY HIS OWN HAND. MAY HE REST IN PEACE. Rock stars who self-destructed. Michelle Nichols. 514 words 18 December 2001 The Scotsman 3 English (c) 2001 STUART Adamson has joined a long list of rock stars who pressed the self-destruct button and died well before their time. Michael Hutchence, the 37-year-old lead singer of Australian band INXS, hanged himself in 1997 by using a leather belt tied to the door of his hotel suite in Sydney. While his death was believed to have been suicide, no note was left. Detectives found anti-depressant tablets, prescribed by a doctor, scattered on the floor of his room but a search failed to find any illegal drugs. He was due to marry Paula Yates, the former wife of Bob Geldof and mother of Hutchence's daughter Tiger Lily. Yates later overdosed. Kurt Cobain, the lead singer of Nirvana, shot himself in the head in his Seattle home in 1994 at the age of 27. His mother had begged him not to "join that stupid club". He was brought up in Aberdeen, Washington, and his parents divorced when he was eight - an event which had a profound effect on Cobain. On his bedroom wall, the singer wrote: "I hate Mom, I hate Dad, Dad hates Mom, Mom hates Dad, it simply makes you want to be sad." Billy McKenzie, the lead singer of the 1980s pop band the Associates, was found dead in a shed next to his father's home in Auchterhouse, near Dundee, in 1997 after taking a drugs overdose. The 39-year-old was heartbroken after the loss of his mother, Lily, who died of cancer the previous year. Marc Bolan, the flamboyant frontman for the band T-Rex, appeared to rebel against a happy childhood in Stoke Newington, London, to become addicted to drugs. He died in a car crash in 1977 aged 29. Jim Morrison, of The Doors, was 27 when he was found dead in his bath in Paris in 1971 of a drug-induced heart-attack. The fast-living rock star is buried in the famous Pere Lachaise cemetery. His tomb has become a shrine for up to 1,000 adoring fans a day who cover his grave with graffiti. Janis Joplin sold three million records before she overdosed on heroin in 1970 at the age of 27. Within months of her death, Me And Bobby McGee became her only No1 and three times as many albums were released in the year after her death. She still sells almost 100,000 records a year. Guitarist Jimi Hendrix was also 27 when he choked on his own vomit after mixing alcohol and tranquillisers. The Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones was 27 when he was found at the bottom of a swimming pool in 1969. Sid Vicious, of the Sex Pistols, was only 21 when he died of a heroin overdose. And Keith Moon, of The Who, died from sheer excess in 1978. But the most famous rock star of all to self-destruct was Elvis, who died in 1977 at the age of 42. He was found in the Graceland bathroom in a pool of drug-induced vomit. Anyway, this info is being used in the most unlikely yet humorous and touching ways. One kid whose last name is CHERRY (as in "Cherry Baby"!!!) doesn't do so well on tests and the like. When he doesn't know an answer, he writes INXS or something about me loving, winning a contest...all INXS related; he even wrote a whole essay (fiction) about how I won a contest and went on stage with INXS and when they gave away the grand prize of an INXS car, he won it and I beat him up! One test had written "INXS 4 LIFE". He asked me when the band last played and being the kind of INXS fan I am, I said in '97 in Pittsburgh (cause that is always in the forefront of my mind cause Michael...whatever). Today he wrote a sentence or two about me going to see them in Pittsburgh. Another kid has downloaded INXS songs and loves "DON'T CHANGE". Today, he wrote "Don't change for you, don't change a thing for me." Well, being the dork I am, I started tearing up and the tears just poured down my face in front of 22 high school freshman. The CHERRY kid turns to this kid and says, "Good one. You really got her." (not in a mean way though!) I've had a look on inxs.com but can't find a discography for the different versions. So my question is what are the different copies of Greatest hits and what are their song lists? Does the Oz version just have the All Juiced Up CD as the only addition to the normal copy? So seeing as I have an extra copy of Greatest Hits (just the single CD not with All Juiced Up) I thought it might be a nice xmas idea to have a bit of a quiz to see if anyone would like to try win it. I don't write to the list often, but shall try to stick to things I know I have mentioned over the years. Multiple choice: 5) If I could have had my choice of song list at an INXS concert would I. a)Have had songs from across the whole 20 years b)Had songs from the first 5 albums as I hadn't had the opportunity to hear these songs live c)Had songs from Kick onwards only 6) Which is my favourite song. a)Don't Change b)Never Tear Us Apart c)Kiss The Dirt (Falling Down The Mountain) d)Suicide Blonde e)Original Sin f)Strange Desire Finally just to try to make it really tough 7) I have a couple of animals that not many people have running round their house. I have noticed from articles sent to the list that at some time Michael said he had some of these animals running round his house (if that's true its very cool as I have kept this type of animal since I was a little kid and they are the best pet - in my opinion). But now were down to only three songs: Don't Change, Kiss the Dirt, and Never Tear Us Apart. Which of the trio is destine to survive? Dropped off the list for a week and now I am back under my original screen name at AOL. If anyone is interested, americangreetings.com is offering free music cards. There are two inxs ones. The link for music greetings is near the bottom of the site on the right hand side. For those of us who have Playstation 2's and can't play anything but region 1 dvds, we are in luck. There is a 30.00 piece at fye (for your entertainment) for the ps2 that allows you to play dvds from any region. That's great because I haven't seen where Live Baby Live has been released in the states yet. Rush's Chronicles is out on dvd here so when is LBL coming out?!? For Christmas, could someone please put Jon under my tree? Just wanted to say 'hi' and 'announce my presence' (adjusting my crown) *snort*, just kidding :^P. Was on the list awhile back.. 'life' had to be so rude as to intrude and make my internet/email access wacky....had to unsub. Never ever ever have given up on 'our boys' tho', greedily consume every last bit of info that comes my way :) Even won an ebay signed poster of them just recently (sorry to whomever I outbid, but, that was my Xmas present to myself.. had to have it :^P ). Anyway, hope all are doing well....look forward to having my lifeline back :) Marlene From: "Erica Nicole" To: Sent: Monday, December 31, 2001 10:40 AM Subject: INXS: welcomes, the new year, & "just a man" hey marlene! welcome back. well, from what i can see, the list has been extremely quiet lately. i have this freaky thing on my e-mail that sends all of my mail from the list into the junkmail folder. it makes me so dang mad. so i have to check my junkmail everyday to read mails from the list. ANYWAY, i wanted to touch briefly on a few things, being that this is my last post of the year, hee. for christmas, my dad bought me the new edition of "just a man" (that includes the chapter written after michael's death. it also has a different cover from what i've seen). if you haven't already, i strongly recommend even someone who is not the biggest michael fan to go out and but it. it is so very interesting... i've been reading it every night now, and i know so much more than i did before. maybe some of you will be able to better understand the circumstances of michael's life early on, that pre-determined the fact that he would grow up to be unhappy. i won't go into detail, but this book is marvelous. i especially love reading tina's accounts of taking care of michael and rhett when they were small. if you are afraid of the truth and would rather not read this book because of it, don't be. i haven't read anything that has surprised me or changed my opinion about him, except maybe the fact that he was not christain, but atheist. this REALLY shocked me. anyway, if anyone would like to discuss the book or it's content with me, e-mail me at inxsbeautifulgirl@hotmail.com. i just wanted to share that new-found joy with everyone, lol. well, i hope everyone has a happy and safe new year. mine isn't turning out so great as my sister is really sick and in the ER at the moment. hopefully things will look brighter later in the month :) -erica nicole
