I recall when they came up to Brisbane he was not wearing any cast.......however when some excited fan grabbed his foot he was rather distraught about it although not missing a note. Hid body language to the fan was along the lines of "Please" don't do that today. Michael seems to be a rather accident prone type of guy....maybe it's that weird dancing he tries LOL. [Inxs] Camden City info Inxs@nightswimming.com Inxs@nightswimming.com Mon, 2 Apr 2001 14:03:44 EDT Hi Listers, Just a bit of info on Camden for those who will be traveling into the city from afar. Please use caution when venturing into the city. It is not one of our safer US cities. Although the Sony Blockbuster auditorium resides in a much "tamer" part of town, care must be taken when you are driving through to get there. Follow directions to the waterfront/aquarium area. You will see signs with a dolphin or shark on them. If you follow these you will get to the concert site without a hitch. The best thing to do would be to get explicit directions before you leave. And bring a cell phone along in case you get lost. As I said before... The arena resides in a much safer part of the city. Once there, you are in fine hands. I wouldn't want to see anyone get lost in the city of Camden. Especially those who are there to see an INXS concert. So please get directions. This post is not meant to alarm anyone. I just want you all to be aware of your surroundings. And to be safe in a strange place. I have attended more than a few concerts there. The most recent being Steely Dan last summer. It is a fun place to see a concert. As they rent out lawn chairs so that you can be comfortable sitting up on the hill in case you weren't able to get tickets close up. You can also bring your own blankets to sit on. I will be there. And hope to meet up with those of you from the list who will also be attending. Especially since there seems to be so many of us going to that particular concert. We could have a beer together before the show starts to toast INXS. And another to toast Michael's memory. [Inxs] (no subject) Fabienne Inxs@nightswimming.com Tue, 3 Apr 2001 08:16:10 +0200 Hi to all of you, Here is an other article I have found on the web. Hope you enjoy it. Fabienne. Michael Hutchence finds finally peace! After more than four years of fight for the heritage of Michael Hutchence, the leader of group INXS disappeared in doubtful circumstances, a solution finally seems to sting the end of its nose. Obviously, when one is a Rock'n'roll Star, father of family with the world practically with his feet, one really does not think of making his will. But here is, an evening, in one of these " afters " sprinkled well, one forgets oneself to find oneself hung by his own belt with the ceiling of his hotel room (without nobody knowing anything of it, obviously)! Whereas charismatic that he could be, Michael Hutchence however did not leave any document (after the changes in his life) meaning his last wills, thus leaving course with all covetousnesses and fights which did not cease since his disappearance in 1997. And then, his partner, Paula Yates, having it a few months joined later among the angels, the business became only more complicated about it. Since last 26 March, all is finished! The Supreme Court of Brisbane finally sliced in favour of his daughter Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily. She will inherit all, landed properties and royalty included. The small one less (which always goes with obviously), it should be seen reducing of a little less than half of fortune of her famous dad (however evaluated with more than 250 million francs), in payments of fees and other expenses legal. Some tears of to run too much! [Inxs] (no subject) Leah Sungenis Inxs@nightswimming.com Tue, 3 Apr 2001 07:46:57 -0400 Obviously, when one is a > Rock'n'roll Star, father of family with the world practically with > his feet, > one really does not think of making his will. Hi all, This article is incorrect. Michael certainly had a will, otherwise you can believe that terrorist organization Greenpeace wouldn't have gotten a dime in the final settlement. The question was never whether Tiger Lily would get her share of the estate. The question was whether the executors had hidden and stolen millions of dollars of assets. This court settlement was a crass settlement that basically gave up the search. Millions of dollars of Michael's assets have disappeared and the court has thrown up its hands and refused to inquire further. It's disgusting. (didn't write down the link, alas). #3 Cincinnati, OH Riverbend has 6000 seats under a covered pavillion, 5000 additional "lawn seats". #4 JOnes Beach, NY-This one sounds fun! If you look at a map of New York, this venue is on the southwest side of Long Island. Seats 11,200. The band approaches the stage from the water. newyork.citysearch.com/profile/11279019 #5 Houston, TX-no info on capacity. here's a review: houston.citysearch.com/profile/11280062 Couldn't find anything on the "Smirnoff Music Center" in Dallas. For all those who nevertheless make a point of thanking me, they can do something for me: Each time, you want to undertake a particular action ask what Michael would have thought. If you think that he would have been proud of you do it, if not do not do it. I do not want to say that Michael was a Saint, but it was enough to see him living to realize that he had his heart on his hand and that he did many things to make happy his entourage. To tell you all, if I desired to send the article on the list It was because I've told myself that Michael would have liked that I do it. Thus, if there is someone to thank here it would be Michael (to have been so human). In conclusion, I would say that, concerning humanism, we would make better refer to us to Michael, who was the alive proof of humanism. Some will say that I am definitly mad and others not, but I think that the world would be much better if everyone were as good as Michael was. That was just a thought, Fabienne. She is not "putting him on a pedestal" she is just saying something right: Michael was generous and he was a very sensitive person....i believe this is what killed him in someways. Then, you don't know nothing of his " self-destructive lifestyle" except if you knew him personally...in this case, i would say nothing, but i doubt it is the case. We know nothing of who was really Michael but all we can say is that he was a very nice person and he gave lots of love to his fans and to people around himself. Everyone agrees with that i think. It is a pity that you are so egoistic and intolerant. You will understand that what you said does not touch me but I made a point of saying to you that I am happy that you are not in charge of the list any more . You did not deserve it. Ah, but she is - she's still the moderator - Davy just handles technical stuff. Don't go organizing a celebratory parade or anything. And what would someone have to do to "deserve" to moderate this list?? Does the acadamy have to vote on it? Or would *you* just have to approve? What a ridiculous statement. Nanci was right - Michael wasn't exactly the guy I'd want my kids to use as their role model. And she wasn't the first one to say it (Ben actually said it) and she probably won't be the last. He wasn't a god or a saint (or anywhere near sainthood), he was human. I think the way that he died pretty much proves that. I, personally, would ask if my mother would be proud of me for choices that I make. I guess that'd be WWMD? What would Mom do? -Courtney [Inxs] Re: WWMD? ;-) Fabienne Inxs@nightswimming.com Wed, 4 Apr 2001 20:58:33 +0200 Hi Courtney, I think many persons here don't understand what I wanted to say. I have never said that Michael was a saint or an angel, I have just wanted to say that when someone on this list has something particular about INXS or Michael and so on, they should share it with the other fans (just in memory of Michael and because he would have certainly liked it) What I wanted to say when I spoke about Humanism is that the humanism and the sensitivity of Michael can give a good lesson to the majority among us. Concerning the way in which Michael had to leave us that only concern his family and does not make him somebody bad and certainly not a monster. Now you are free to think what you want but I find ridiculous that some people take the mickey out of the others. We can all give our own opinion without attack the others. That's what I think. Nobody flamed Fabienne - *disagreeing* is not flaming. . Nanci didn't even address Fabienne directly, she was agreeing with someone who disagreed with Fabienne - did you read the same thread I did? Disagreeing with an opinion is one thing - making a personal attack is another. Anyway - I think some people need a thicker skin. As I've said before, if you don't want anyone to disagree with you, don't share your opinions. One of the great things about this world is that none of us are alike - but often that results in disagreements. It's part of life - it makes the world go 'round and it makes things more entertaining. What a pointless existence we'd have if we all agreed on everything - bring on the Thought Police. Jeez. Attached is an article from the Chicago Sun Times. I just found it odd that all of the sudden these venues were popping up with the same new names, but the article explains why. (There's a slight reference to INXS as '80s heroes'.) Otherwise it might not be of interest to many, but I thought I'd send it along for the Camden and World people. Take Care, Meghann New name for New World April 5, 2001 BY JIM DEROGATIS POP MUSIC CRITIC Meet the new New World Music Theatre. It's going to be pretty much the same as the old New World Music Theatre--except for a different name. Concert promoters SFX Music Group, owners of the 28,000-seat Tinley Park amphitheater, announced Wednesday that the area's largest outdoor concert venue will be renamed for an electronics retailer. This summer, concertgoers will be rocking out at . . . the Tweeter Center for the Performing Arts. SFX also announced a roster of summer concerts heavy on '80s heroes and aging classic rockers. Among them: INXS, Depeche Mode, Men At Work, Poison, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Rod Stewart and Journey. Tweeter is a rapidly growing national retailer that recently acquired and renamed the local United Audio and Douglas TV chains. It also has stamped its moniker on two other SFX venues in Boston and Camden, N.J. "This is a great marriage--bringing the nation's premier consumer electronics retailer together with the area's ultimate live entertainment venue," said Larry Wethers, vice president of SFX Chicago. SFX executives declined to say how much Tweeter is paying for the 10-year naming rights to the former World. New York-based SFX has spent $2 billion since 1998 purchasing dozens of venues nationwide to become the dominant U.S. concert promoter. It is locked in an intense competition here with Chicago-based Jam Productions, one of the few remaining independent regional concert promoters. Jam originally spurred construction of the $23 million World in the late '80s, acting in partnership with south suburban real estate developers and the village of Tinley Park. In 1994, five years after the venue opened with a performance by Cher, it was purchased by the Nederlander Organization and renamed the New World Music Theatre. In 1999, SFX bought out Nederlander in a $93.6 million deal, acquiring the World and the Alpine Valley Music Theater in East Troy, Wisc. At its opening and again in '94, the then-owners of the World promised concertgoers a "state of the art" experience. But many have complained of chronically muddy sound and poor sight lines, situations that are exacerbated by two tiers of luxurious corporate-owned "sky suites." Wethers said that enhancements for 2001 include a new green and yellow paint scheme, new signage, landscaping upgrades, new food items, a VIP club and renovations to half of the 72 sky suites, which are getting new counters, cabinets and TV monitors. Consumers will help pay for these improvements with a $3 per ticket facility fee. From: "Ashlynne F" To: Inxs@nightswimming.com Subject: RE: [Inxs] Camden NOW!!!!! Hi all, When you are buying tickets, try to understand the purpose that scalpers serve, instead of being angry or thinking it's unfair. They buy tickets to make a profit. If they did not buy the tickets, you would not be able to get them at any price. What they are doing is making a product available to you if you consider the price worth it. It is up to you to decide if the price is worth it. If it's not worth it to you, no harm done. No one forces you to make the transaction. It's simply available if you want it. And please don't start screaming about how evil scalpers are. Try thinking out of the box and you might see something new. I would pay any price to see Michael perform. Unfortunately, not even a scalper can do that for me. I'm sure there are a few of you out there. eric reed I am going to try to choose my words wisely as I do not want to get flamed for my personal opinion. I sit back and read the post to this list. I remain interested not only in hopes of keeping connected to Michael but also in hopes that INXS will move on and create some new music. I don't often post. In all honestly I will not go see INXS when they tour. I am not saying anything negative it is just that it would hurt me personally too much to hear songs that Michael brought that special magic to done by someone else. It will be 4 years in November since Michael passed and I think that if the band had intentions of continuing on they should have written some new music by now. A new album for the tour. That would interest me and I would respect them for that but they haven't and the magic they once had is now gone, it left when Michael passed. I don't think that anyone can ever perform the old INXS songs and bring that special magic to the music that Michael did. I always found INXS a band that satisfied all my senses, something is missing now and it will never be the same for me. Sorry if I have offended anyone as it is not my intention to do so. UK: Paula Yates left just $20,000 in will - paper. 04/05/2001 Reuters English News Service (C) Reuters Limited 2001. LONDON, April 6 (Reuters) - The late British television presenter Paula Yates, one-time partner of rock stars Michael Hutchence and Bob Geldof, left just 14,000 pounds ($20,100) in her will, Britain's mass-selling Sun tabloid reported on Friday. Yates, who died from a drugs overdose at her London home on September 17, held houses and possessions valued at 795,266 pounds ($1.14 million) at the time of her death, but only a fraction was left once her debts had been paid, the Sun said. The paper quoted unnamed friends of Yates as saying she bequeathed everything to Tiger Lily, her orphaned four-year-old daughter by Hutchence, because she knew her three other girls would be provided for by their father Geldof. Yates first appeared on British television as co-presenter of Channel Four's music show "The Tube" during the 1980s but became more famous for her marriage to Boomtown Rats singer Geldof and then her affair with Hutchence, singer with Australian band INXS. She waged a long and very public battle against drugs, alcohol and depression after Hutchence was found hanged in a Sydney hotel room in 1997. Yates, who had said Hutchence was the love of her life, refused to accept a coroner's verdict that he had committed suicide. Tiger Lily, aged four, was made a ward of court after her mother's death and is currently being cared for by Geldof, who already had custody of his three children with Yates - Fifi Trixibelle, Peaches and Pixie. I have no idea if there is any INXS connection - but I mean, who says that? LOL. There is no title track, so there is no cover of the song (or a different song by the same name). Additionally, there's a song on the album called "Walking on a Jetty." The music is apparently very Ani DiFranco-esque (according to some interviews I found). I've not yet managed to listen to any clips of the album, of course I have not yet tried. :-) I thought it was all a very strange coincidence and I have a feeling that somewhere along the line, she was INXS inspired :-). She's from Boston - anyone from Beantown know more about her and whether or not she's a huge INXS fan?? Anyway, just thought I'd share. Her album is due out on Tuesday for anyone who's interested. Its the same track list Neil posted but it identifies specific mixes of each track. Im just going to note the relevant changes below. If you want to see the article it is at http://www.nme.com/NME/External/News/News_Story/0%2c1004%2c21883%2c00%2ehtml Black and White is listed as the Extended Version. If true, this means that there will be TWO Dekadance tracks on the Anthology, not one. Burn For You is listed as the "single mix". Usually a "single mix", a "radio edit", or "seven inch mix" is simply the same track sped up so that it takes up less airplay or fits nicer onto a 45. Similarly, Need You Tonight is listed as "single edit". Devil Inside is the "Australian Single Edit". Suicide Blonde is listed as the "7 inch edit". Elegantly Wasted is listed as "Radio Edit". Different World is listed as the "7 inch mix". There is a longer 12" edit of this song as well available on some vinyl singles. Not Enough Time is the "Barcelona LP Fade" which I still have yet to understand the difference between this version and the album track except that the album track bleeds into "All Around". So if you don't already own the single for Not Enought Time you can now get a non-bleeding version of the song. Beautiful Girl is listed as the "Medelsohn Mix". I have never heard of this mix before. Anybody have any ideas? Neil? Searching is listed as the "Leadstation Radio Edit". This is version they played on the radio in OZ and in the video for the song. Those of you here in the states who have never seen the video, you're in for something different. But one for Beautiful Girl, > unless I > missed it, isn't listed on Neil's Discography. > > Davy yeah, I've got that one. it's pretty rare, from what I understand. it was in a boxed version of the beautiful girl single. it also had another rare track, underneath the colours (chicken mix). the mix of beautiful girl isn't much different. the beginning is shorter, the accents on the drums are a bit different, and toward the end you hear the music played on an acoustic guitar. it's basically not a remix, but just another person's interpretation of an album mix. the underneath the colous mix, however, is AWESOME! it was mixed by andrew farriss, and the main differences are that the drum track has been replaced with some really funky beats and a clavicord is used to replace the bass. it updates the song a good 12 years and places it right in line with all the stuff that was coming out around that time! with this mix, you can a more defined vision of the "funk" element. seek it out! eric reed ===== got milkshake? get to know eric reed at: http://www.members.tripod.com/skippythefrog/skippy.html From: "K WithaKris" To: inxs@nightswimming.com, inxs2000@yahoogroups.com Cc: mphiebig@hotmail.com, screaminalleycat@excite.com, ninxs@hotmail.com, sarahbell22@hotmail.com Date: Mon, 09 Apr 2001 16:25:19 -0000 Subject: [Inxs] Tour Survey Update Reply-To: Inxs@nightswimming.com Some of the "stats" have changed due to the new entries I have received...If interrested, take a look! Told them of INXS being my favourite band; little did I realise that Thunder had recorded a song inspired by the events surrounding Michael's suicide called 'You Wanna Know (Just Another Suicide)'. It appeared on their final album 'Giving the Game Away' and was released as the lead single. Not so much a tribute to MH but more of a stab at the press and the public which feed off it. The lyrics are below and there is a link at the bottom for Thunderchannel.com where you can here a sound sample of the song. Holed up on the 10th floor, listening to the radio I heard it as the news broke, saw it on a TV show You oughta be delighted You should be excited (you wanna know) What's the word up on the inside? (you wanna know) Was it just another suicide? (you wanna know) Always looking for the one dime headline Cos it's the only way you know To hell with any consequence, just get it out there now Shoot your bullets from the hip, watch it all come down But you're so short-sighted And you're uninvited (but you wanna know) Who's been living in the fast lane? (you wanna know) Underneath it you're all the same (you wanna know) Hurting people it's a full time campaign (you wanna know) Every morning it's the same thing (you wanna know) You get a kick from the suffering (you wanna know) Make believe we're gonna drown in our sin Cos it's the only way you know You oughta be delighted You should be excited But you're so short-sighted And you're uninvited (you wanna know) What's the word up on the inside? (you wanna know) Was it just another suicide? (you wanna know) Always looking for the one dime headline (you wanna know) Who's been living in the fast lane? "I operate in this band not as the son of Aretha Franklin but as the guitarist, and the band is on a need-to-know basis," says Richards, one of Franklin's four sons. And what the band knows about Tuesday night is this: "We'll be giving the concert we do on the road that we normally do -- of course, that can change at a moment's notice." Richards has a busy career of his own, so it's frustrating to him that people think of him only as "Aretha's son" or that guy with the blond dreads they see out and about. "People see me at Tom's Oyster Bar having a beer, and they think that's what I do," he jokes. "If I go outside Detroit, I'm more recognized." Richards and his group opened up for INXS on its last tour before the death of lead singer Michael Hutchence; he's played behind Joe Cocker, Natalie Cole and Ashford & Simpson; one of his tunes is currently being used in a Lincoln-Mercury ad; his songwriting partner is Andrew Ferris of INXS; he has a songwriting deal with Universal. He has an album, Sonic Bloom, on sale at Borders and at his web site, http://communities.msn.com/teddyrichardshttp://communities. msn.com/teddyrichards. And Richards has written a song, "Night to Day," that's being considered for his mother's next album. But there's one thing he'd like to make clear. "What I do on my own is not rhythm and blues by any stretch," he says. "It's closer to rock, kind of a cross between Lenny Kravitz and Seal. Whatever that is," he adds with a laugh. He had guest vocaled with INXS, but this time is a guy named Jon Stewart" (yes, I typed it right, Jon STEWART!!) and then added "but not THAT Jon Stewart...I don't know who this one is"...Then they go on and talk about how they lobe the commedian Jon Stewart, and too bad it's not him cause it would have ben interresting... ...being the fan I am, I HAD to correct them...So, I only had a few more steps to the Dr's office, and I asked ot use their phone (they are cool there...I explained why) :o) I got through right away and the phone person put me through to the DJ and I corrected him and told him who Jon Stevens was and so on...He asks me what my sources were! So, after looking at the software a little more, I discovered that there is a setting that allows me to turn off the reminders completely. I've gone ahead and turned them off and hopefully (fingers crossed) we shouldn't be getting any reminders at all from this point. (i'm a big fan of smaller venues.) i remember thinking that, even with a triple bill, the bands included on the tour are considered past their prime. since we're all such huge inxs fans sometimes it's easy to forget that most of the general public doesn't even know that they're still around. *everyone* i've told about the tour has reacted the same way: "what?? how are they doing that?! who's gonna sing?" as much as i personally and a good member of people on this list hope that the band will continue to make music together, many people associate inxs first and foremost with michael. this is reminding me of the whole "should they change their name" debate -- with the way things seem to have gone for the great australian bite tour, i'm starting to lean towards the "they should change their name" camp. not that the remaining members have any less right to the name than they ever have, but it might allow them to reconstruct themselves in a more productive way (btw, by sayint this, i *don't* mean that i think they shouldn't play inxs songs). i'd love to see them start their 'comeback' in smaller venues (clubs and whatnot) -- that's how i saw them the one & only time i saw inxs live, and i believe (though admittedly i have nothing to compare it to in this case) that this is the absolute best & most intimate way to see any band. fingers crossed -- maybe that will happen & maybe that will be the 'good' that will come out of this!! have a great weekend, meghann From: "K WithaKris" To: inxs@nightswimming.com, inxs2000@yahoogroups.com Date: Fri, 13 Apr 2001 23:10:51 -0000 Subject: [Inxs] From sfx.com Reply-To: Inxs@nightswimming.com Thought I would just pass this along... http://sfx.com/insideScoopStory.asp?artistID=12268&docID=1596http://sfx.com/insideScoopStory.asp?artistID=12268&docID=1596 >...Kris (with a K) From: "K WithaKris" To: inxs@nightswimming.com, inxs2000@yahoogroups.com Date: Fri, 13 Apr 2001 23:13:57 -0000 Subject: [Inxs] Message from Davo on inxs.com Reply-To: Inxs@nightswimming.com Davo posted this on the message board responding to people wondering what is going on:...Kris (with a K) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hey guys, ss darren has stated in a previous post, all the guys are okay and were looking forward to playing in the US again. It seems likely that the tour will immediately follow the release of the new CD. My best guess at this stage is a Sept. street date for the CD and a theater tour starting in early October. Well, I found out from Darren on Friday night about Midnight Oil pulling out of the tour, but I couldn't get access to a computer until yesterday at work here. The word is already out, so there really is no need to post what you all already know. Anyway, I just wanted to say hello to everyone and I hope everyone is well. The list has been so quiet lately, I guess everyone is still get over the shock of it all. I for one am very disappointed and upset. Only time will tell now if INXS will be back this year at all. I hope and pray that they will. I was so looking forward to going to the shows and meeting up with some of you. It was hard enough for me to go, because Michael was not going to be there, but I knew he'd be there in spirit and I know he'd would want the band to move on and put on these awesome shows. Which they have, but it's just a shame that Midnight Oil has to put such a damper on everything. Well, I am going to close for now, but I just wanted to say hello. I haven't found any new articles to post. A lot of the articles that I have found are ones that are still advertising the shows and dates. If I find any of interest, I will post them. Men at Work frontman Colin Hay said Midnight Oil and INXS apparently had some issues they couldn't resolve. "I'm actually surprised it got this far, to be honest," he said. "It didn't smell right from the start." Spokespeople for INXS and Midnight Oil could not be reached for comment by press time. The tour was to kick off May 28 in Atlanta and wrap up June 27 in Las Vegas. "We are planning to return for a global tour - including U.S.A. and Europe and South America in October and November with different guests," a statement on MidnightOil.com < http://www.midnightoil.com> said. Midnight Oil, best known for their 1988 hit "Beds Are Burning," were to share the headlining spot with an INXS lineup featuring New Zealander Jon Stevens filling in for Michael Hutchence, who died in November 1997. "INXS deeply regret and are sad to announce to all our loyal fans in North America that due to unforeseen circumstances, the proposed Great Australian Bite tour has been cancelled," the group said in a statement on INXS.com . "More information will be posted at a later date." Tour or no, INXS fans will hear from the band when it issues the 42-song compilation Shine Like It Does (1979-1997) in June. Meanwhile, Men at Work, who broke through in the States with the 1982 hit "Who Can It Be Now?," are down to just two original members - Hay and saxophonist Greg Ham. The duo don't have any plans to release new material under the Men at Work name anytime soon, Hay said. Those left in the lurch by the Bite tour's cancellation can catch Hay when he hits the road Saturday, April 21 in support of his sixth solo album, Going Somewhere, due in stores April 24. Hay said he will launch an extensive club tour this summer. The doors to the late TV star's former seaside home have been flung open for potential buyers. But as well as touring the three storey Georgian house and its five bedrooms, drawing room, sweeping staircase and sea views, visitors are also getting a glimpse of Paula's life before it was snuffed out by a heroin overdose. The garden is overrun with fragrant flowers including fuchsia, rhododendron and tamarisk, many of which were planted by Paula. Among the reminders left behind by the star is a leopard-print rug, a lampshade made by Paula and her children and a poignant sign on a bedroom door featuring a clown and teddy bear framing the words "our child". There is also an antique roll-top bath with brass taps and original calling bells. Between the cupboards and the 19th-century stone fireplace in the kitchen is a colourful painting and several sketches by Paula's children, proudly displayed on the walls. Sea shells collected from the beach which is just yards from the Grade II listed house in Hastings, East Sussex, are still strewn over the bathroom. And in an airing cupboard a cartoon-print duvet cover remains carefully folded ready for use. The first day of viewings attracted 11 potential buyers and several offers for the pounds 175,000 property. Richard Smallman, senior negotiator for selling agents John Bray and Sons, said: "We've had a lot of interest. "Most people who have come to see it know its history - and that has increased the house's appeal. "I sold the house to Paula and she loved it. She loved the Old Town area of Hastings, the antique shops, the beach and the fishing area. It's quite Bohemian and arty which I think suited her. "She was often seen about the place with her children and always seemed cheerful when she was here. "Paula liked the fact she wasn't bothered by people in Hastings and she could enjoy a quiet life with her children. It was her little hideaway. "The house has been totally cleared apart from one or two bits and pieces, but it needs about pounds 30,000 of work. "I know Paula wanted to work on it herself, but she never had the chance." Paula bought her seaside getaway just eight months before she was found dead in her London home at the age of 40 in September last year. Friends said she found Hastings an ideal retreat for her and her children Fifi Trixibell, Peaches, Pixie and Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily when the hustle and bustle of the big city got too much for them. She is said to have bought the house for its tranquillity as she strived to pull her life together following the death of her lover, INXS rocker Michael Hutchence, in 1997. But tragically she never really got over his death. Neighbour Paul Guy, 36, said: "She always looked so relaxed when I saw her, it was as if she didn't have a care in the world." But I know we have discussed CS on this list in the past. Anywho, I saw them live last night, and let me tell you...it was absolutely phenomenal! Ed Rolland looked strikingly similar to Hutch throughout the show. I had never seen INXS live, and I kept thinking to myself 'why couldn't this be INXS?' Regardless, CS is my favorite 90's band, and after seeing their show last night, quite possibly on my list of favorite bands. Another similarity I noted was when the CS drummer, Shane Evans, was doing his thing he also reminded me of Jon Fariss. I remember seeing Jon in the 'Live Baby Live' videos where he did this thing with his drum sticks, in which he flipped them slightly over his hands, but enough to be able to note that he was doing something fancy, and continued on drumming (anyone know what I am talking about?), I had never seen any other drummer do that before, until last night in which Evans did the same thing. It is a decade since the break-up of their relationship, and more than three years since the death of the INXS frontman, but Minogue showed her soft spot for her former lover during her concert tour in Sydney last week. Minogue asked Hutchence's father, Kelland Hutchence, and his partner Susie, to her opening night concert, then three nights later launched her underwear range at Gas nightclub the dance venue planned by Hutchence in the months before his death. Hutchence senior said he was overwhelmed to see Minogue's first concert in Sydney, but felt a bit saddened by her triumphant appearance. ``I have to admit I felt very sad when she was on stage it got me wondering about things and what might have been,'' he said. ``I think Michael would be very, very proud of what she's achieved. All Australians should be proud of her, she's one of a kind.'' Minogue was unavailable to comment about Hutchence last week, but her now-famous words after his death echo his impact on her: ``I think of him all the time. I feel him around. I feel him watching over me very strongly sometimes.'' HEATH Ledger hasn't just inherited Mel Gibson's good looks and screen presence, he has also adopted his unusual, half-American accent. When Ledger appeared at his Sydney press conference last week, his down-to-earth Perth accent had been replaced by a dodgy American drawl. Gibson has never copped much flack for his cross-continental accent, mainly because he was born there and has lived in the US for the past 20 years. But Ledger is a Hollywood newcomer, and seems to have dropped his Aussie twang almost instantly perhaps for the sake of film star street cred. A Brisbane Supreme Court judge sanctioned a compromise of claims by the estate for millions of dollars allegedly owed to it by nine trust companies linked to Hutchence. Under the compromise, the estate will receive only a nominal payment from the trusts. Hutchence's will executor Andrew Paul, who sought the court order, had not been prepared to pursue claims against the trusts without his legal costs being indemnified out of the estate. This was opposed by Hutchence's family. Hutchence's October 1996 will allocated half his wealth to his daughter Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily upon turning 25, and equal shares to his mother, father, half-sister, brother and Paula Yates. However, the first $US500,000 released from the estate had to be split between Greenpeace and Amnesty International. Hutchence told his family he owned multimillion dollar properties in Australia and abroad, but they did not form part of his estate which was technically bankrupt when he hanged himself in a Sydney hotel in November 1997. By the way "I Don't Like Mondays" was their biggest hit here in the states, but the Boomtown Rats certainly had their day in the UK and had a string of hits in Europe. I have always enjoyed Bob as a musician and felt he was amazing to have engineered the Band Aid and Live Aid projects. On Saturday, INXS bass player Garry Beers indicated a lack of Oil(s) was the reason the 22-show Great Australian Bite tour broke down before its opening in Atlanta on May 28. "The statements made are misleading and I don't believe that INXS has stated the points made in the article," Gary Morris, Midnight Oil's manager, said on Saturday. We can assure you the comments from Beers were genuine -- in fact he reiterated them in a Sunday newspaper yesterday saying: "I don't know why the Oils cancelled but it was a big disappointment for fans." Morris goes on to say: "It is my personal belief and the belief of Midnight Oil that Confidential has sensationalised the issue of the cancellation of the proposed tour of North America by Midnight Oil, INXS and Men At Work," also adding our claim that we tried to contact Morris was simply not true. When news of the tour cancellation broke two weeks ago, Confidential did call Midnight Oil's office, first leaving a recorded message and then speaking to a woman who, despite taking down details, said it was "unlikely" Morris would comment. No one commented. INXS manager David Edwards and Men at Work's Greg Ham both said no to interviews. But Beers didn't shy away from pointing the finger of blame for the tour not going ahead. "The Oils pulled out at the last minute but they still haven't spoken to us, which is disappointing ... but you'll have to ask them. I just think they're chickens." But no one can deny there's underlying resentment and sadness about the showcase US tour failing. The rockers were close friends, and Hutchence's 1997 death in a Sydney hotel room, choked by a leather belt he'd placed around his neck, spurred much of the concern about mortality that fills U2's recent album, "All That You Can't Leave Behind." For weeks, Tina Hutchence had heard that the new U2 album included a song about her brother, and on a recent afternoon she steeled herself, drew a tall cup of tea and put the CD into the stereo at her Burbank apartment. "I think it's amazing, four years have gone by and people are still thinking of Michael," she said as she cued up the song. She has not been able to leave behind the grief or complications created by her brother's death, which touched off a bonfire of tabloid coverage, much of it debating whether it was suicide or an accident during autoerotic asphyxiation. The tawdry coverage turned to the rock star's private life--his volatile relationship with his girlfriend Paula Yates and custody disputes over their daughter, Tiger Lily. Yates died last year and the girl, now 4, is in the custody of Yates' former husband, Live Aid founder Bob Geldof. To Tina Hutchence, there is no doubt that her brother committed suicide, and that drugs and the Tiger Lily battles pushed him into the abyss. She explains it in "The Real Michael Hutchence: Just a Man," a hardcover book due for U.S. release next month. After long months writing, she was intrigued to hear another viewpoint--that of Bono. "Michael loved and admired him so much," she said as she read the lyrics: Don't say that later will be better now You're stuck in a moment and you can't get out of it. "Michael had been talking about his unhappiness for well over a year. But at that point it was a split-second decision. A moment. Bono is right, he couldn't get out it." Tina Hutchence shook her head and smiled wanly. "I think I'd like to hear it again.'
