Hey all, Just thought I'd wish you all a Hapy New Year, and all the best for the year 2001. The world didn't end at the start of this year, so I guess the whole destruction of the world at the end/start of the New Millenium was a load of crap......however I told my friends what if it's all a scam, and they have everyone thinking that the world will end in either 2000 or 2001, but what if just to trick everyone it was 2002, cos no-one would think that it's a special year, or whatever, but I'm jibbering so I'll move onto the point I first started this e-mail with. On the Channel Ten special last nite called NYE LIVE, they had Aussie acts performing all night, and each band had to do a cover of another Aussie band, and Kaylan did a cover of INXS's NEW SENSATION. I dont' know if anyone else on the list saw it, or what they thought of it, but I thought it was pretty good, a bit different!!!! No idea what the boys did for NYE, but you're probably right about something in the Aussie Water - must be Sydney water to be exact...remember when we all had to boil it ? :) Anyway, I wish to express my utter shock towards the NYE concert in Parramatta... Y'see, some younger Aussie artists performing at this concert thought they'd have the smart idea to sing updated versions of various AC/DC songs. Not sure if this was to advertise the current AC/DC Aussie tour (I can't see how as various shows had sold out, but all during the televised version of this concert there were AC/DC ads being shown.) but listening to Human Nature sing AC/DCs "TNT" was absolute blasphemy! Vanessa Amorosi did a little better, but seriously, if the whole idea was to advertise AC/DC to the youth of today, then I reckon it failed horribly... Don't get me wrong I love VA's music (her vois is incredible), but hearing her and Human Nature singing their versions of these living legend songs was absolutely hideous. I still have nightmares about it... :) (For the record, I'm half joking and half serious, so don't take this post seriously!) Taxiride were good INXS were FANTASTIC! I was in the front row just in front of Tim. They sounded so good, Jon Stevens did an excellent job on the vocals, he has a really strong voice and did the songs justice. The band did not miss a beat, they've still got it. The concert was full of energy with approximately 10-15,000 fans in attendance. They started at 11:45pm with Suicide Blonde (I think). They played (in no particular order) New Sensation, Taste It, Disappear,Time, Bitter Tears, Mystify,Need You Tonight, Never tear us apart, What you need, By my side (Jon S introduced it as one of the best songs ever written), Heaven Sent, Elegantly Wasted, Shine like it does, Good times and a few more, approximately 20 songs in all. They finished at about 1:15am. Suzi Demarchi from the Baby Animals joined them on a few songs. The band seemed to have a great time playing outdoors to a large crowd, I'm hoping they got the performance bug and will return to the stage sooner rather than later. The performance was part of the "NYE LIVE" television special broadcast live to Australian Channel 10 viewers. You can learn more about this new act at their official website (http://www.kaylanmusic.com) or order their debut CD "No Commandments" at Amazon.com. The Herald Sun reports that INXS guitarist Tim Farriss has stated the band have "climbed too many mountains to just give it away" after the death of Michael Hutchence. INXS, who performed a New Year's Eve show in Adelaide with guest vocalists Jon Stevens and former Baby Animals singer Suze DeMarchi, say they are still in "weird territory". "I'm not sure what it proves," Farriss says of the gig. "It's going to take time. There were a lot of fans who were mega Michael Hutchence fans and that's understandable, because so am I. There's no doubt about that. But at the end of the day he's not here and we are, and we have to get on with our lives. He was just one section of the band. While we miss him more than anyone else would, apart from Tiger and Paula, I think the best way we can honor his memory is go ahead and do the right thing and continue making music." January 5: The Adelaide Advertiser reports: As world motor racing returned to the streets of Adelaide, INXS - one of Australia's most globally acclaimed bands - made its return for Adelaide's biggest New Years Eve party. Free to race ticket holders, the after race party had been dubbed the Party of a Thousand years. Headlined by INXS and supported by Taxiride, The Living End, You Am I and Spiderbait performing on two stages positioned on the race track, the enormous concert came close to living up to its overly optimistic name. While all the bands were well received by the festive crowd, the night belonged to INXS, playing its first full length concert since the death of Michael Hutchence three years ago. With Jon Stevens as lead singer, the band greeted the audience with their 1990 hit "Suicide Blonde" before playing a catalogue of their 1980's hits including "Guns In The Sky" and "Original Sin" as well as songs from the "Elegantly Wasted" album. And in one of the worst-kept secrets of the Le Mans weekend, Suze DeMarchi, the former lead singer of the 1980's act The Baby Animals, appeared unannounced to perform a few songs. The concert had been a crucial test for the 23 year old band and the crowd gave the group more than a passing mark. Performing from 11.45pm, INXS took the crowd into the New Year, performing until about 1am. January 3: Duane Lavold's little-seen feature film Limp is now available for viewing over the internet. Visit Movie Flix and register as a user to watch the film in streaming video for free. Limp is a "hard core adventure comedy about a young, charismatic musician who breaks away from his funk artist friends. He gets the perfect job, the perfect girl -- except for one imperfect thing: he goes limp. As his impotence causes everything to deflate, his mind awakens to rediscover who and what he is." Hutchence has a cameo in the film as a jaded A&R man who suggests to a young musician that he kill himself in order to ensure a place in rock immortality. The film eerily overshadows Hutchence's death. In the script, Hutchence's character, Clive, says, "Cobain was close. But only because he killed himself... It was brilliant on his part. Otherwise he would have just been another flavor of the day... Give me one good reason you shouldn't kill yourself." Anyway, now that the album is released Bono has dedicated "Stuck in a Moment" to Michael. I know the first time I heard "Peace on Earth" it made me cry. Many of the songs are very moving and deep. I know in the Rolling Stone article where Bono talks about the dedication he did at Irving Plaza, he mentioned it was a shock even he did it. He normally doesn't like to tell people what/who his songs are about. I am guessing that is why it isn't written on the album. He mentioned he just felt he should say it was for him at Irving Plaza for some odd reason, and didn't know it until he was saying it. ...Kris (with a K) http://kriswithak.tripod.com/2001INXSodyssey.html From: To: "Multiple recipients of INXS-List" Sent: Tuesday, January 16, 2001 1:05 PM Subject: INXS: Re: U2 album & MH I absolutely LOVE that new U2 album!!!! From: "Erica Nicole" Add to Contacts Date: Thu, Jan 18 2001 2:51:39 PM -0800 friend sent me this... i think its freaky!! erica By MIKE GEE Here's a story - if it's even close to true. There are strong web-based rumours that INXS are chasing former Baby Animals lead singer, Suze DeMarchi. The brilliant DeMarchi, arguably Australia's finest ever female rock vocalist and leader of one of the country's greatest-ever rock bands, would a massive acquisition for INXS: her profile and fanbase - despite a lengthy absence broken only by the release of a solo album a couple of years ago - is still sufficient to draw renewed interest to the veteran band which has struggled since the tragic death of lead singer Michael Hutchence (and the subsequent stream of Hutchence family problems and the recent death of Paula Yates, his soul mate and mother of their surviving daughter Tiger Lily). Several music websites are reporting that the remaining band members are talking to DeMarchi about joining - whether in a guest capacity (as Terence Trent D'Arby and former Noiseworks lead singer Jon Stevens have over the past year or so) or as a permanent member is uncertain, although the latter is probably more likely, given the relative age of the band and their accumulated wealth. If she joins, DeMarchi would be the first female vocalist to front INXS. Speaking recently to NME.COM, guitarist Tim Farriss said he had mixed feelings about playing live without Hutchence, but the band planned to continue because they had "climbed too many mountains" to "just give it away". "There were a lot of fans who were mega Michael Hutchence fans and that's understandable, because so am I, there's no doubt about that.," Farriss said. "But at the end of the day, he's not here and we are and we have to get on with our lives. "He was just one section of the band, while we miss him more than anyone else would, apart from Tiger and Paula, I think the best way we can honour his memory is go ahead and do the right thing and continue making music." DeMarchi led the Baby Animals to the top of the charts in 1991 with their debut self-titled album which - on the back of a string of hits including Rush You, One Word, Early Warning and Painless - went on to become the biggest Australian debut album of all-time with sales of more than 400,000 in Australia alone. That record stood until it was broken by Savage Garden's debut album. Their second album, the Ed Stasium-produced Shaved and Dangerous, failed to live up to the debut but it also contained many songs the band didn't want on it and a production they Suze later defined as unsatisfactory. Subsequently, they were caught up in a lengthy legal wrangle with their management and by the time it was resolved in the late Nineties the band had split. DeMarchi's solo album, Telelove, marked a change of pace from the full-on rock and shimmering pop of the Baby Animals: a fine songwriter DeMarchi experimented with her sound becoming a lot more electronic and sales were only moderate. Married to former Extreme guitarist, Nuno Bettencourt, and the proud mother of a gorgeous young daughter, DeMarchi remains the quintessential Australian rock woman: a stunning lethal cocktail of sex, attitude and aggression capped by a marvellous voice. Live, she and the Baby Animals were a brilliant blast of energy, power and subtle contrast. Certainly, it's always seemed (personally) that enlisting a female vocalist was the obvious way for INXS sans Hutchence to go forward. And there's little doubt DeMarchi would be a big asset and attraction. That's Entertainment's initial enquiries suggest the rumours began after DeMarchi appeared as a guest on an INXS show - featuring Stevens in as lead singer - over the New Year. Her record company, FMR, also knew nothing about her joining INXS, however, it hadn't been in contact with her for a while To: Multiple recipients of INXS-List Subject: INXS: Re: U2 album & MH From: Jjtough@aol.com Add to Contacts Date: Thu, Jan 18 2001 3:10:03 PM -0800 In a message dated 1/18/01 2:37:15 PM Pacific Standard Time, inxsbeautifulgirl@hotmail.com writes: << next u2 usa single is gonna be "walk on." >> Isnt "walk on" already released? It should have been the first single from this album... at the very least, it should have been released instead of the nightmare "Please (You Got That)". :) And the video is simply amazing as well... -neil -- Neil Kothari, M.D. Bellevue Hospital/New York University Medical Center An Excess of INXS -- http://INXSweb.com NP: echobelly "digit ep" The Best of 2000 -- http://www.geocities.com/nkoth/music2000.html To: Multiple recipients of INXS-List Subject: INXS: Re: SOTW#134 - Full Moon Dirty Hearts From: eric reed Add to Contacts Date: Sun, Jan 21 2001 4:06:44 PM -0800 --- Neil Kothari wrote: > > > INXS SONG OF THE WEEK #134 - Full Moon Dirty Hearts > > As most old-timers here know, I can't stand this album of the same > name. INXS were basically throwing out everything they were "supposed" to do and just made an album the way they wanted. it's like they were giving the world the finger and saying "we do whatever we like!" and that's what I love about INXS and especially this album. it's brilliantly produced, being the most raw sounding INXS album, yet still retaining all the punch and kick they always have. it sounds most like it was recorded straight live in the studio, with very little trickery added. this is how I like INXS. they also showcased this album well on their dirty honeymoon tour, which was my favorite. they played nearly all of the songs from this album live, knowing that 85% of the audience wouldn't know the songs. but they didn't care. they loved the songs and they played what they wanted to play! and it brought out a real creative side in them that needed to come out. this is definitely my favorite INXS album. eric reed ===== got milkshake? get to know eric reed at: http://www.members.tripod.com/skippythefrog/skippy.html To: Multiple recipients of INXS-List Subject: INXS: Re: SOTW#134 - Full Moon Dirty Hearts From: gwenhutchence@webtv.net (Gwen Hutchence) Add to Contacts Date: Sun, Jan 21 2001 4:47:20 PM -0800 this album is one of my top favorites , very unique and sexy. To: Multiple recipients of INXS-List Subject: INXS: The Philly Party.... From: "K WithaKris" Add to Contacts Date: Mon, Jan 22 2001 11:16:09 AM -0800 Below is my recolection of the events in Philly this weekend... Sarah, Elise and I arrived to the hotel Friday night a little after 9pm and headed straight to the hotel bar (didn't even go to our rooms hahaha). We ordered some food and some drinks and un-wound. Shortly after, we see Bill and Bonnie (2 fans from OH who came in for the party that are not on the internet). They joined us at the bar, and shortly after- Sean (inxs1@hotmail he lives in the area) came in to hang out, and then shortly after THAT, Janie arrived from her long flight from Oregon (I think she gets the award for furthest traveled for the party so far...it used to be held by Amy Lynn and Kim from MN)! All 7 of us hung out in the bar for a bit, and then retired to our rooms (we were pretty pooped, except for Janie cause it was only about 9pm her time). So, Sean and I obliged Janie, and brought her out of the hotel for a drink and some chit chat (that was some expensive kamikaze)! Then went back to the hotel and started making goodie bags...Sean left at 1:30 and Janie and I stayed up until 3:30 (who could go to sleep when you are talking about INXS!!!) :o) We thought we were keeping up Sarah and Elise who were next door, we were so loud! But we didn't :o) The next morning, Sarah met me and Janie at the pool ("ow! HOT TUB...get in the hot tub...ow!")...After being annoyed by the "splashy" swimmer, and Janie and I walking into the MEN'S changing room (oops heehee) we headed back the hotel to get lunch and get ready for the party...We met up with Lynda and my boyfriend (Adam), and headed over to the party to decorate. At exactly 3pm, in walks Michelle (talk about prompt haha)...Michelle and Janie proceed to scream like school girls cause they were so excited to meet each other hahaha... The party started out a little slow...People chit chatting, music in the background...Dogs in Space playing on a few video screens around the room (no sound)...people slowly drifting in...After the food was served and people had a few drinks, the dancing started. It started out with Sarah, Elise and this guy Keven from Philly (he's not on the internet either- YET) on the dance floor, and by then end, NO ONE was sitting down (not even Michelle who had hurt her ankle or Sean who never dances)! We had people from NY, NJ, PA, OH, MD and OR this year...I originally had about 35 people RSVP'd for the party with an additional 6 people saying maybe. But I guess because of the threat of a storm, we ended up with 20 people. We needed a min. of 25 with each paying $20 each to pay the party bill, but because we didn't reach that, each had to pay an additional $2/person...But if you think about it, equals to $22/person...there's that # 22 again!!! But , I think the $22 was worth it! We got a private room, DJ, dance floor, private bartender, and TONS of goodies!!! In each bag, everyone got 2 peel-off passes from the X tour, a guitar pick, a picture of Michael, and an audio tape of a 1980 concert. THEN, I had a table filled with other prizes including some videos, other audio tapes of concerts (from 82 and 86), pictures of INXS, a MAX Q CD (thanx Janie!), 2 different mix CDs I made with rare INXS/MH stuff (I think everyone got one of each of these), and a few other CDs Leah brought...I had a cup next to each item...And if you wanted to try and win that item, you put your name in the cup...at the end of the party, I drew names to win those items. Everyone who entered their name in a cup ended up winning at least 2 things I think (some won 3 or 4 things- it was all by random drawing)! I'd say that is a pretty good deal for $22! hahaha The DJ played Don't Change as the last song (as per request) and then played U2's "Stuck in a Moment..." live from Irving Plaza where you hear him send it out to Michael as we started to clean up, hand out prizes and gather our stuff...It seemed the perfect ending... Some had to head home before the weather hit (cause no one knew when that would be), and others went shopping at the mall next to us before it closed, and the rest of us found some liquor stores so we could continue the party back at the hotel (we opened the adjoining rooms between mine and my boyfriend's room and Janie/D'Lynn/my friend Melissa's room after the mall people got back) and ordered pizza...We had about 11 people hanging out looking at pictures, telling stories etc...It didn't start snowing until 10pm, but when it did, a lot came down! But by the morning, the roads were all clear, and everything was fine! After check out, Janie went off with her friends that came to see her from NY, and D'Lynn, Melissa, Leah, Aivi (Leah's boyfriend), Adam (my boyfriend) and I went to Denny's for brunch before heading off...So, for me and Janie, it turned out to be a 3 day (Fri night, Sat and Sun) celebration for Michael :o) I had a great time, and I hope everyone who was able to make it did too! Next year should be back in NYC (let me hear your opinions people)...I'd love to hear anyone else's take on the party too, so fire away! ...Kris (with a K) PS- pictures will be up as soon as I get them developed and find someone to let me use their scanner...I would also love copies of everyone else's pics too!!! From: Leah Sungenis Add to Contacts Date: Fri, Jan 26 2001 9:30:42 AM -0800 Hey all, A quick recollection of the Philadelphia Hutch Party from the Princess.... Aivi and I drove all over that darn mall before we found Dick Clark's American Bandstand, but it was great once we did. It's a huge place with lots of memorabilia and a lot of individual party rooms. We had a great circular room that had a dance floor in the middle and chairs and tables against the walls. There was a DJ who played a ton of INXS, and tvs on the walls playing Dogs in Space. I remember one point where I was talking to Bonnie and Bill (we were deep in some controversial Michael discussion) when I looked up and saw the scene where Michael and Saskia Post are making love and her breasts keep popping out. I gestured across the room to Aivi and kept pointing up (the tvs were up about 12 feet) at the screen and laughing. He kept looking around but didn't think to look up that high right away. He must have thought I was crazy. At other times there were clips on the tvs from American Bandstand, so the Jackson 5 and the Go Gos and a bunch of other bands appeared to be singing and dancing INXS songs. We got a big laugh out of that since they always seemed to be dancing exactly in time to whichever INXS song was playing at that moment. There was great food and a beautiful cake--chocolate with whip cream icing, and it said "Happy Birthday Michael, Shine like it does" in purple writing with big purple roses. I've been dieting like crazy but I ate a piece, believe it!!!! We had a big INXS giveaway, of audios, videos, CDs, posters and magazine articles. Kris made CDs especially for the party with the party and the date written on them as souvenirs which were very cool and had some really rare alternate versions on them. I made videos and audios (including the 1980 show, the oldest known INXS show available to fans) and Bonnie brought a lot of articles. Some people brought photos of them and INXS which were fabulous. We all talked and laughed and ate and drank and danced our heads off. There were songs where everyone there was on the dance floor at once. It was just fabulous and the only thing bad was that it ended. WOW!!! I can't wait to next year. Thanks to everybody who came and everybody who made it so great, especially QUEEN KRIS!!!!!! I think there are a few of you who remember me as reed at the old inxsweb.com chat room and message board. at least I hope you're still here... well, ever since inxs.com was relaunched back in october of 99, inxsweb.com has diminished. all of a sudden, people were leaving inxsweb.com to go to inxs.com. and I admit, I am one of those people...not because I like that site better, but because there was no one left at inxsweb.com for me to talk to! to me, things changed a lot when inxs.com opened. I mean, it's a good site, but I made all of my INXS internet friends thru inxsweb.com. now a lot of those people are gone. I know that inxsweb.com doesn't have all the bells and whistles it once had, mainly because inxs.com asked neil to remove that stuff. and the news at inxsweb.com is pretty much the same stuff you read at inxs.com. maybe it's now discouraging for neil to keep the site updated. it's been said that a new chat room will be added soon...but I've seen that message up for maybe close to a year (I believe). I'm not criticising neil for not updating the site, but I think updates would help it out and hopefully regain some of the magic it used to have (for me, anyway). another thing that would help...I'd like to get people back into that chat room. I know a lot of us don't have time to chat like we used to (or maybe we do, hehe), but I really do miss those chats and I miss all the friends I made in that room. there is only a small handful I can think of that are still around...pooh, cherrybaby, jaci, and inxsessive. sorry if I am forgetting anyone, but that's a pretty small amount! where are magoo, chuck, pixel, lilac, ghost, demon, MUMMYX, etc..? again, sorry if I am forgetting any names. there are a lot more I may have forgotten, but only because I haven't heard from them in ages! anyway, I miss those old days. we would have great times in the chat room, and very rarely would we argue over nonsense such as whether or not INXS should continue, because we were all FANS and we were there because we supported the band. we just talked about the good times, and we all made some pretty good friends. so I want to organise a chat at inxsweb.com. how does saturday, feb 3rd sound? that is for people in the US...which I guess would be sunday for all the aussies. I'm not sure what time would be best...I think I'll organise that once I get some response from people. just so you know, this chat isn't for just the old inxsweb.com people, but this is also for all the "newbies" like erica, jennifer, dawn, mitch, etc...(sorry if I left your name out). most of you are probably not familiar with inxsweb.com. just so you know, it was THE INXS site for many years. I believe this email list originated from inxsweb.com (before it was inxsweb.com, it was some funky address from neil's school, I think) and most people here met each other (in that weird funky "online" sense) at that site! anyhow, EVERYONE is welcome and encouraged to enter the site next sunday and have a chat!
