It's actually a dedication to Saint Bob, however, there is a guestbook on the site you can go to. I went to it and wrote a little tidbit about how I blame him for MH's demise. I didn't really want to tick off the guy who own's the site, so I did go back in and give him a compliment on doing a nice job on the site, which he has done, but it's just too bad the nice job is dedicated to such a relentless s%#@head. If you are interested in reading the guestbook remarks I entered, here is the site: http://www.bobgeldof.com, then go to read the guestbook, and look for my name "Michelle." Not sure what else I put in on info for myself, as my PC is messed up and I can't get into anyweb sites right now. You'll just have to look for my entry. It's not hard to find. I just wanted them to know in there how this MH/INXS fan feels about the man they think is so wonderful. As far as Michael haunting Saint Bob, well, I hope to God it's true, yet I hope Michael, is at peace, also---------satisfied and happy, where ever he is! Actually my first thought when MH died was Bob had him bumped off.. Relating to the statement above, from Donna, here is what I have to say: I have always felt that there was something very wrong with the picture where Michael's death is concerned. It's too much for me to write on here, and very controversial, but if you are interested in reading it, I have some of it on my homepage: http://hometown.aol.com/mystify21/ I'm just very torn about all the circumstances around his death, and I can't and probably never will, come to a final conclusion as to what I believe really happened to him that heartbreaking day. I do believe there is more to it, than what the world is being told. Any way you look at it though, Saint Boob was, at the very least, indirectly involved in Michael's death, as his incessant badgering and uncooperativeness made Michael so upset, and added constant turmoil to his life. Anyway, that's my opinion. Now, I want to go think about happier thoughts, so I'll say so long for now. I hope i don't lose everything when I try to fix this computer. Wish me luck! But I remember for the longest time hearing Depeche Mode fans complaning about the lack of play that BTM got...everyone kept requesting that they play it, but they never did...despite playing M.C. Hammer and Vanilla Ice episodes over and over again. The only time they played the DM episodes was when they had a BTM marathon...I'm guessing that's what we're gonna have to do with the MH one as well. Hey all, I hate to say it, but, I'm afraid Mark is right on line on this one. I had suggested, lonnnnngggggg ago to the list, that we bombard VH1 with requests for the BTM on MH, be played. Many did write to them, and it actually got played 1 time after that. There were 3 scheduled times that never materialized.......some other BTM or SNL was shown. I actually wrote to VH1 under my 3 different email addys, plus my daughter's 2 email addys and my son's 2 email addys. Guess what...........we all got the same generic, monotonous response you are all getting now. I'm not saying don't keep trying, because I certainly want it to be seen, so by all means, keep trying. All I'm saying is don't be too surprised or disappointed if it doesn't get us anywhere........those people seem to have some kind of impenetrable one track minds. They only know to play the same BTM's over and over. I did on one occasion, however, get one reply about it possibly being shown when they have a BTM marathon. Hope they show it again, after all, it's rather foolish to spend all that time and cash on a show, then NOT show it, eh? One other thing........I asked this before but didn't get any responses. I'm just curious. Does anyone know why, "On the Rooftop," (which is on Michael's CD along with "Straight Line" and "The Passenger"), wasn't included on Michael's self titled, full length release? It's a good song.........."I'm reading all about sin, that's the chapter I'm in. Do I have to wait, Oh, do I have to wait? I'm standing on the rooftop, waiting for the lightning............" Most of INXS music is obviously based around Michael's lyrics and vocal melodies.....with the guitar rifs and Chord rhythms only the strange little vehicle that Michael drives in and that's basically Andrews design. There's not too many INXS songs that an average guitarist can play very well as stand alone guitar and vox only. On the other hand there are heaps you can play with a piano (two hand) and vox only and still have the core essentials of the song. INXS music relies on the cooperation of alot of instruments and octaves so to speak.......fair enough you can play the rifs to Devil Inside......Need You Tonight etc until your fingers are blue and all numb and you feel like you know something about what Tim or Kirk have been doing for 2 decades now LOL. INXS music is band music and it really belongs in that type of environment (3 people plus). I have often found it is easier to make up stuff of your own and play over the top of INXS cds (too scale obv)......And somebody pointed out how easy Guns in the Sky is........it's too easy that's why you have to innovate if you are just playing the song by yourself......Tim, Kirk and Andrew are always minimalists in most of the music........they play well within themselves, this helps getting it right in the live setting and really sets up the vocalist as the focal point most of the time as it should be........ I mean he's/she's the one with something to say right? It's almost the rule in any "pop"ular music. If you ever acquire the true skill you don't need somebody to tell you how it's played anyway.....you can figure it out for yourself by what you hear. Even Warner Bros can't stop that!. Cya, Ben now if you look, it talks of bono. i never said, "bono will be at the olympics with u2." but if what dear ben says is true, 1/4 of u2 will be there with INXS. i never said he would sing for them either. i said it would be really neat if he did though. don't be so shocked if bono comes along with them (altough i have no idea if this is true i'm just basing it on what this post says) because he was a very close friend of michael. its no totally absurd. i'm sorry if i confused you at all but just look back at my first post about this and you'll see i never said u2 will be there. i said bono will be there and thats cool because i like u2. lets not argue about this silly lil thing anymore, shall we? whatever the outcome, i'm just happy INXS will be there. -erica From: "Stewart Christie" To: "Multiple recipients of INXS-List" Sent: Saturday, September 09, 2000 11:39 AM Subject: INXS: The final say on this Olympics thread From INXS.com INXS to play at the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games It's been a closely guarded secret, but now the news is out and exclusive to INXS.com. INXS have been invited to perform at the closing ceremony of the Sydney Olympic Games, which will be televised to around 4 billion people worldwide. Jon Stevens will be the guest vocalist. This is obviously a brilliant opportunity for the world to see the guys in action again and reaffirms that they are still at the top of the Australian music scene. The concert will happen on Monday, October 1st at Stadium Australia. Ironically, the guys played at the stadiums official opening with Terence Trent D'Arby in June of 1999. A range of top Australian acts are also performing at the closing ceremony, including Savage Garden and Men At Work. Sydney has been hit by Olympics fever, with thousands of athletes and spectators arriving in the city for the games, which begin next Friday. The guys are all very honoured and excited about playing a part in such a historic occasion. The official media release will be posted in the next few days. Hey all, I am doing an assignment for uni for a subject called Short Story. (I'm studying Human Movements Science, and this is my second major of Literary Studies that will become my second teaching area when i HOPEFULLY become a HPE teacher). Anyway, we have these stories we have to read and then analyse them, this one story that I have to do an essay on is called A HUNGER ARTIST, and when I was reading it, I kept thinking of Michael Hutchence. Anyway, so I started writing my essay, and then I got this magazine from Ebay, FHM magazine, and interview from 1994, and it after reading it, the connections between MH and the hunger artist were so evident. So I've used INXS/MH in my assignment and I'll copy it into this e-mail (cos I'm not sure if you can attach things on this list), and hopefully you can give me some feedback. I'm in no way trying to dis the band or MH, just using the facts that I've got. Also, the assignment isn't TOTALLY finished, there's a few bridging paragraphs I have to do, and a bit more on the conclusion, but it's 95%done, so any critiscim is welcome. Here's the essay now: ********************************************************** It has been said that Franz Kafka's 'A Hunger Artist' is really an allegory about the way in which the modern world treats artists. This paper will discuss this quote and comment on the story and the aspects that are reflected in today's attitudes towards celebrities. It is evident from the opening passage that the narrator is constructing the idea that the way the hunger artist is treated can be paralleled to the way in which artists are treated in modern day society. "During these last decades the interest in professional fasting has markedly diminished." (Stone pg. 312) This can be related to certain aspects in the entertainment industry, for example the different genres of movies and television shows. For a time, films about aliens and science fiction were very popular, over time the interest faded, and made way for the 'next big thing,' which could possibly be seen as the teen romance films set in the High School, which generally used teen soap or drama actors such as Katie Holmes, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Joshua Jackson and Scott Wolf. You just have to look at the recent releases at the box office to see war or battle movies are the genre of the moment with such films as The Patriot, Gladiator and Saving Private Ryan. You'd think that television would be safe from all this chopping and changing of 'popular genres' but it's not. It's easily seen in the rapid growth of reality/voyeurism shows which have made a remarkable entrance to the small screen over the last six months. With shows such as Shipwrecked, Survivor, Popstars, The Twenty Dollar Challenge, Love Rules, Backyard Blitz, just to name a few, while the craze is drawing in the viewers, the list is endless. Soon this fad will fade and make way for something else to recapture the public's interest. This feeling of out with the old, in with the new is clearly evident in 'A Hunger Artist,' which is not only illustrated in the opening passage, but throughout the entire story. This diminishing interest in the artist in 'A Hunger Artist' can also be seen in the career of Australian band INXS. As Amruta Slee says: "The 1980's were good to them. A series of hits culminated in 1987 with the record 'Kick', three singles in the Billboard Top Ten and Worldwide recognition. They cracked America and once sold out Wembley Stadium." (Slee pg. 70) "However, these are the nineties, a time where supermodels have replaced musicians in the hierarchy of celebrity and INXS find themselves in a slump. Their latest album 'Full Moon, Dirty Hearts' has had little airplay in the US and they have just finished a tour, which, as Hutchence puts it, involved "playing every backwater in America." A new strategy is underway and involves playing smaller venues.either a genuine desire to return to INXS's pub roots or a consequence of leaner times." (Slee pg. 73) INXS, just like the hunger artist, were revered during the height of their career, although despite their international success and capacity to draw sell-out crowds, their star had faded. This can be seen to be caused by the up-bringing of a new generation that has newer and exciting forms of entertainment, and the 'old ones' just don't interest them like they did the previous generation. The narrator in Kafka's story makes a comment that: "We live in a different world now. At one time the whole town took a lively interest in the hunger artist; from day to day of his fast the excitement mounted; everybody wanted to see him at least once a day; there were people who bought season tickets for the last few days and sat from morning till night in front of his barred cage." (Stone pg. 312) The narrator then explains the gradual disinterest in the hunger artist. It could be argued that in a sense the narrator's first comment "we live in a different world now" is incorrect. From the previous examples of the changing popularity of movies and television shows, it is clear that society moves from one "craze" to the next and the only time we hear about the 'has-beens' is in 'Whatever Happened To..,' 'Where Are They Now,' and VH1 specials. On the other hand, the point the narrator could be intending to make about living in a different world, is describing the unpopularity of professional fasting. In this 'different world' the profession just isn't as interesting or appealing to the new generation, which can also be seen in the demise of many artists in today's society. It could be seen that the public's disinterest in the fasting profession is due to the perceived unimportance of such a feat. It's not as though the hunger artist, through his 'career' is changing the world, although he may think he is. This is illustrated in the following quotes the hunger artist makes: "Just try and understand the art of fasting! Anyone who has no feeling for it cannot be made to understand it." (Stone pg. 316) "I always wanted you to admire my fasting." (Stone pg. 316) It appears he believes no one could ever understand what he is doing, and the only reason he continues to do so, is because he wants admiration, he wants to feel he (in some way) is having an effect on people. Lead singer for INXS, Michael Hutchence could be perceived to know where the hunger artist is coming from in these following quotes he made in 1994: "I know people who have spent their entire careers thinking that they're changing the world but they cannot relate to the audience. The audience doesn't really truly understand them. And this is a sad moment when that realisation comes, when you look out at the audience and they're going, "Yeah! Great Man! All right!"" (Slee pg. 74) "I do feel as though I'm giving a lot. Changing people's lives, helping them get laid." Helping them get laid? "Oh sure," he says airily, "I know, I get letters." (Slee pg. 74) It can be seen in 'A Hunger Artist' that the audience doesn't truly appreciate the hunger artist's fasting, possibly because they don't understand why he is doing it, and partly because the artist himself can't relate to the audience. It is possible the hunger artist believes he is changing the world, just like anyone in their professions hopes that they are, however it is much easier to perceive you are doing so when you are constantly in the public eye. Clinton Walker says, "what happens to a rock star is sometimes they realise after a while that the world is nothing like the world they live in." (Writer pg. 37) Which is evident in the story. The hunger artist, after parting ways with the impresario, joins a circus and is put on display and can fast for as long as he desires. However, even this does not satisfy him, because the interest is just not there any more, people pass him on the way inside without a second glance and even the circus people themselves eventually loose interest and forget about him, which is illustrated in the following passages: "The fine placards grew dirty and illegible, they were torn down; the little notice board telling the number of fast days achieved, which at first was changed carefully every day, had long stayed at the same figure, for after the first few weeks even this small task seemed pointless to the staff." (Stone pg. 316) "An overseer's eye fell upon the cage one day and he asked the attendants why this perfectly good cage should be left standing there unused with dirty straw inside it; nobody knew, until one man, helped out by the notice board, remembered the hunger artist. They poked into the straw with sticks and found him in it." (Stone pg. 316) ! It is not only the gradual 'fall' of the star, that is what makes this story an allegory of the way the modern world treats artists, there are several other aspects that have symbolic meaning. The cage in which the hunger artist 'lives in' during his period of fasting is symbolic of the 'bubble' in which celebrities live in. Being on constant display 24 hours a day, seven days a week, could be seen as a disadvantage of becoming a celebrity, however it is ironic, that is exactly what the hunger artist yearns for. The hunger artist has no where to go, no way of escaping the cage, and the constant glare from people, always staring and scrutinising him. This is how celebrities must feel, with their personal lives being splashed all over the tabloid magazines, and broadcast to millions of viewers on shows such as Entertainment Tonight. It's no wonder, so many celebrities have described their lives as living in a bubble (quotes) which is exactly how the hunger artist lives. Michael Hutchence describes public life as "Somewhere between farce and boredom." (Slee pg. 70) To ensure that the hunger artist does actually fulfil his fasting feat and doesn't swallow even the smallest of food, permanent watchers are selected from the public with the task of keeping an eye on him day and night. These watchers could be symbolic of the bodyguards that some celebrities hire to protect them from the media and crazed fans. The narrator comments on the irony of how the watchers are mostly butchers, and this could be reflected in the type of people who are celebrity bodyguards, who are big, muscular and often portrayed as 'meat-heads.' There are also the watchers who shine flashlights on the hunger artist continuously throughout the night which is symbolic of the media's constant attention to celebrities and the flash of the camera. At the end of his career with the impresario, the hunger artist is already starting to become a has-been. This is seen in the impresario's last ditch effort to gain interest for the fasting act. "For the last time the impresario hurried him over half Europe to discover whether the old interest might still survive here and there; all in vain; everywhere, as if by secret agreement, a positive revulsion from professional fasting was evidence." (Stone pg. 315) This is reflective of the comment Amruta Slee made about the tour (Get Out of the House tour) which preceded the release of the full Moon, Dirty Hearts, being played at smaller venues. Ed St John says "This idea (of the tour) presented some problems: given the downturn in the economy, and the lacklustre performance of the last album, it seemed likely that INXS would face the prospect of playing much smaller crowds than they had played to on the X tour." "Rather than play smaller or fewer arenas, and attract comment about their shrinking audience, they would play much smaller venues. In brief, they would play the sort of large clubs and small theatres they used to play in the early eighties." (St John pg. 180) Despite their attempts to re-claim their pub roots, INXS didn't seem to draw the attention of the public that they were once capable of filling huge stadiums. As Ed St John comments, "The tour was dogged by the perception - particularly in the US - that INXS were only playing small venues because they couldn't fill large rooms. The entire world tour lasted three months, with just 11 dates allocated in the US . In all, just 16,000 US fans saw the band play - fewer than they were accustomed to playing to in a single night. The band that had once played arena shows in the US for months on end suddenly seemed to be yesterday's heroes and, much as most of the shoes were sold-out riots of energy and sweat, the perception proved more powerful than reality." (St John pg. 181) As you can see, it is evident that Kafka's 'A Hunger Artist' is really an allegory about the way in which the modern world treats artists. From this one example of illustrating the highs and lows of Australian band, it is easy to identify parallels through the careers of both the hunger artist and INXS. It may be ironic to see that the careers of both ended with death, both the hunger artist and lead singer of INXS, Michael Hutchence. Both put everything they had into their careers, and in the end, it could be seen as what ultimately led to their deaths. 1. Stone, W., Packer, N.H., Hoopes, R. If anyone had the chance to see him before he met with the U.N officials, he would not comment on the new U2 album, as he stated he was not th ere to promote or try to sell the new wares, but to deliver a message of forgiveness (of debt) to Third World Countries mainly "Africa".I think it is great to have had a friend such as Michael, but Bono is wise enough to know this is not his place to try and lead a group of extremely talented and energetic people such as the remaining members of INXS when he knows they are capable of delivering their own message.Let us hope that they are successful!!! "Put The Pieces Back Together" was a song which was a backlash regarding "Satan Bob," intended to jab him for his behavior & treatment of Michael & Paula. The song, "She Flirts For England," came about after Michael's good friend, Bono made the remark about Paula, that she could flirt for the entire coutry of England, (not an exact quote, but close). There are many songs on the M.H. self titled release which elude to the stress and the toll it was taking, which reveal a darker affect and possibly fleeting annihilative thoughts. But, there are also, some bright songs, with more of an upbeat approach, such as "Possibilities." Anyway, if you really get to know the songs, lyrics, tunes...........if you are a M.H. fan, most likely you'll like/love the album. It shows a lot of versatility. Take care Julia xxxx From: To: "Multiple recipients of INXS-List" Sent: Sunday, September 17, 2000 9:25 AM Subject: INXS: Paula Yates dies Here is the information I found about Paula's death. Trish ************************************************************* TV PERSONALITY Paula Yates was found dead at her home today. Her solicitor Anthony Burton said the 40-year-old was discovered at her west London home. The body of the mother-of-four was found in the bedroom of the house in St Luke's Mews, Notting Hill, by an ambulance crew, who alerted police. Paula, who rose to fame as a presenter on the 1980s music show The Tube, had three children with former husband Bob Geldof - Fifi Trixibelle, 17, Peaches, 10, and Pixie, seven. Geldof said in a statement: "We are all so sad. The loss for all the children is insupportable." Paula had her fourth child, Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily, four, with INXS frontman Michael Hutchence, who killed himself in November 1997 in a Sydney hotel bedroom. Since the tragedy Paula has been plagued by depression and has been treated in private clinics on several occasions. A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "The body was found in a bedroom and the cause of death will not be known until the post mortem." He said this had yet to be arranged and until the cause of death was established, the police were treating the death as suspicious. A forensic medical examiner at the scene confirmed Paula was dead at 11.30am. Geldof spoke of the family's "pain" at Paula's death. The statement added: "It doesn't require much imagination to understand the pain. Please do nothing to add to that. "Leave them (the children) with their loss and Paula with her dignity. Thanks, we appreciate it. Bob." Since Hutchence's death in 1997, she was linked to numerous men including singer Finley Quaye and aristocrat Samuel Robinson-Horley, 20. In 1998 there were reports that she tried to hang herself in a suicide bid to copy Hutchence. She was saved by a friend who found her barely conscious in the bedroom of her west London home with a noose round her neck. Paula's mother, Heller Thornton-Bosment, said she was "devastated" after learning of her daughter's death. "This has come as a terrible shock to everyone," said Mrs Thornton-Bosment, who lives in the south of France. "I am waiting for calls from London to find out exactly what has happened." Police today cordoned off the exclusive street where Paula's body was found. Officers could be seen around the vine-covered house in St Luke's Mews, in fashionable Notting Hill. There was no sign of Paula's daughters. One Notting Hill resident described her as a friendly woman who took an active part in the community. Fashion photographer Tony McLeish, 34, said: "We often used to see her walking her kids to school or to the playground, and she always looked pretty cheerful. "Quite often we'd see her down at the shops or at Portobello Market and she's often say hello. "She's not like some of the other stars you tend to get in this area who can be very snooty - she always seemed to be a part of the community and didn't have any attitude. "I remember seeing her with a cheeky little grin, almost like a smirk on her face, a really cheeky smile like she used to have on TV. "But I haven't seen her for three or four weeks so I couldn't tell you if it looks like she was feeling bad recently." Hutchence's father, Kell, expressed shock on hearing the news. He told IRN from his Sydney home: "Of course we are in deep shock, we did not expect this at all. It is terribly tragic. "We always supported and tried to get along with Paula. "I feel so very sad for my little granddaughter Tiger Lily." A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said a crew and a `fast responder' paramedic, used specifically to help resuscitate a patient who has no life signs, were called to Paula's home. The 999 call was received just before 10.10am and by 10.25am a request was made for the police to attend the scene. The 41-year-old television presenter's body has now been removed from the Notting Hill home and taken to Westminster mortuary to try to establish the cause of her death. Forensic officers spent the morning at the property looking for clues as to the cause of the tragedy. Paula was found dead at her home after a female friend raised the alarm after calling at the star's St Luke's Mews home. Tributes have been paid to the TV personality from friends and colleagues, who remembered her lively, fun personality. A bouquet of pink and purple flowers has been left outside the house. A card attached reads: "With deepest sympathy. To my friend, Paula. God bless you. I will miss you very much. Love Tracy Ayre. XXXXXX." Ms Yates' close friend Belinda Brewin sobbed as she paid a visit to the scene. She was comforted by a friend and stayed for five minutes before driving away. Detective Inspector Mike Christensen said there were no signs of violence in the house. He said: "At 10.15 this morning, a lady friend of Ms Yates notified police that she appeared to have died... There is no sign of violence or anything like that." Her ex-husband Bob Geldof said: "We are all so sad. The loss for all the children is insupportable." Meanwhile Paula's mother, Heller Thornton-Bosment, said she was "devastated" after learning of her daughter's death: "This has come as a terrible shock to everyone. I am waiting for calls from London to find out exactly what has happened." Tim Gardam, the director of programmes at Channel 4, where Paula began her broadcasting career, said everyone at the channel was deeply shocked. "Paula Yates was a central figure of two of Channel 4's most emblematic and successful series - The Tube and The Big Breakfast. She will be remembered for her charismatic personality at the heart of these programmes. Everyone at the channel is deeply shocked at the news of her untimely death," he said. Solicitor Mark Stephens, who handled Paula's divorce from Bob Geldof, said his thoughts were with her family: "She was a vibrant personality, she lived life to the full. She epitomised the rock and roll life style, that's why the public loved her. " He added: "Her children were the real passion of her life. She would quite often be at home with them rather than going to the opening of an envelope, as some people did... The blow of Michael's death hit her for six, it took all her energy to come back from that. She's now with the man that she loved, hopefully she'll be at peace." Meanwhile, Notting Hill newsagent Sharn Bhalla said Ms Yates was in her shop yesterday with her daughter Tiger Lily. "My husband, Manmohan, was serving her and because Tiger Lily was so adorable, he gave her a little toy," she said. "He said Paula looked fine, she didn't look unhappy or anything. Paula would come here almost every day with her daughter and whatever Tiger Lily wanted, whether it was sweets or a comic or anything, Paula would buy it for her. She really loved that little girl. It's sad when a young person loses their life, and probably needlessly, as I would suspect that it was probably an overdose, and probably suicide, but possibly accidental........never know which. That is only what I would surmise from the situation at this time. I could be way off base. I'm really not surprised, as I think Paula has truly been a mess, but putting up a good front since Michael's death. I believe that she's truly wanted to be with him since he died, and now has gotten it accomplished, IMHO. I am so worried about Tiger. I feel badly for all the girls, but at least the other 3 have their dad, being that he is. Tiger has her sisters, but to be with them, my God, she'd have to be with Satan Bob, who tried to get custody of her so long ago!!!!!!!!!! Oh, can you just imagine! Lift your head high percious Tiger, all the hearts mummy and daddy touched carry the responsiblity to weep for you at this time. Your pain is not unjustifed or alone. But you, do not cry for them precious one. They would not want that. You are the sacred gift of life they share and will forver love. No one can imagine the pain of such a overwhelming sadness that someone - a child, will feel with the loss of both parents. How will never matter to your mind and soul, just the fact they are gone. No one will ever replace mummy or daddy. They will greatly try to fill your parent's love in your heart and shower you with the love they have you and your parents. In the wake of such a tragedy, to lose something so tender and dear as a mother. Especially after losing a father. Hope seems like it will never shine as bright as the sun again. It will, one day when you are ready mummy and daddy will see your love, their love, out shine the sun. Ms Brewin is also Tiger Lily's godmother and in the past has been described as her guardian in the press and as a 'tutor' in legal documents. Ms Brewin has taken care of the little girl often, in particular when Yates was being treated in a private clinic for depression and drug abuse. In 1998 Ms Brewin took the little girl to Australia and Portugal on a three-month holiday while the presenter tried to put her life in order. In the longer term Yates's youngest daughter's future is just as unclear and could be worryingly tainted by her financial inheritance. When she is 25 she will gain access to a trust that was set up with her £2 million share of her rock singer father's estate. Before his death Michael Hutchence had named Colin Diamond, his former financial adviser, as the child's legal guardian. It was about a minute or so long, and had video footage of Paula, Michael, Tiger, and the other girls along with the text. Considering that, for all intents and purposes, Paula was a total unknown in the US, I was pretty amazed they devoted this much airtime to her death. I haven't posted to this list for a very long time, but I've been reading all of this and I have to say something. First of all, I am just as shocked and saddened as the rest of you over this horrible tragedy. But I have to agree with Meghann on this. If Tiger is with Bob and her sisters right now, then I have to believe (because he IS a father) that he will genuinely take good care of her during this time and that her welfare will be looked after. But don't take my word for it. I'm (and we) are not personally involved in the situation. Read the following article and let this rest. (I've included the text, as well as a link) By tossing in our opinions and, yes, sometimes insults, we are contributing negatively to an already tragic situation. IMHO, it's also extremely inappropriate for us to authoritatively speak of things that we have no first hand knowledge of and are, quite frankly, none of our business. Article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/uk/newsid_930000/930453.stm Paula Yates's orphaned daughter Tiger Lily was in "good hands" being cared for by Bob Geldof, the child's grandfather said on Monday. Michael Hutchence's father, Kell, said four-year-old Tiger Lily - the product of Paula's love affair with the INXS rock star - was being well cared for by Geldof, Yates's former husband and the father of her other three children. The body of the 40-year-old TV presenter was found in bed at her home in Notting Hill, west London, on Sunday. A post-mortem examination was being carried out on Monday. Michael Hutchence committed suicide in 1997. She's just so close to my heart, and I feel so terribly sorry for this little girl. Kell Hutchence Mr Hutchence said: "As far as the custody of Tiger is concerned, I feel she's in very good hands. "Naturally I'm greatly concerned for my granddaughter's welfare, and I think it's just a matter of letting the dust settle on this whole matter and then working out what is the best for Tiger," he added from his home in Australia. Mr Hutchence said he would like to come to the UK, but had recently been in hospital. "The doctors don't want me to fly yet, but I'm hoping to get a clearance from them tomorrow and I think there's every likelihood, subject to me discussing things with parties there, of coming over and spending some time with Tiger," he said on Monday. "I would like to do that so much. She's just so close to my heart, and I feel so terribly sorry for this little girl," the 67-year-old added. Legal action Mr Hutchence described Paula's death as "very shocking and very tragic". "I know that Paula had her ways and often we didn't agree, but God bless her, I never really thought it would come to this. "She was a good mother, she loved her kids and I just think it's very, very tragic," he said. Mr Hutchence launched legal action to gain custody of Tiger Lily after his son hanged himself with a belt in a hotel room in Sydney in November 1997. But he said on Monday: "I only ever tried to get a temporary custody, if you can call it custody, which would just have been looking after Tiger when her mother was not well." The subject? Custody of children. While it's easy to singlehandedly blame Bob for upsetting Michael, the issue is not simply black or white, right versus wrong. If Bob and Michael were quarreling over custody (whether it be Bob's 3 kids or Tiger Lily -- both were important topics of discussion between the two singers), it's because each of them thought they would make good fathers to their daughters. Now, I'm not a huge Bob fan (though I do enjoy his music), but Meghann is right: we really don't have much of a right to trash Bob. After all, he very rarely speaks to the press. Throughout the weeks of Michael's death, he refused comment, and has been desparately trying to stay out of the media's eye with respect to his personal life. It didn't help that Michael's solo album had a few attacks on Bob. What's Bob going to do? Respond publicly to some songs sung by a man who has since died? Name-calling and mud-slinging at this phase only keeps things mired in a dirty rut. That's my two cents. I wouldn't go so far as to call Bob a Saint, but I'm not quite prepared to call him "Satan Bob" either. Everyone in this situation has suffered enough. Maybe getting custody of Tiger Lily is what is fated to be, a way to have some closure and to make sense of all of this. And now, the reason I'm posting for the third time today: will Paula's death impact INXS's performing at the Olympics? It's selfish of me, I know, and I suppose I will understand if the guys decide to cancel, but I really hope they march forward and perform at the closing. The timing for this tragedy couldn't have been worse... but I hope the guys can pull through. This is a wonderful opportunity for them, a once-in-a-lifetime chance to get their most positive publicity ever. I'm not really doubting they will still perform, I think it's very likely, but if there's a chance, it doesn't happen, well, I'll be concerned. >From INXS.com: "'The members of INXS, Garry Gary Beers, Andrew Farriss, Jon Farriss, Tim Farriss, and Kirk Pengilly would like to express their sadness at the death of Paula Yates. It's hard enough to lose your parents as an adult, but I couldn't imagine going through what that child has gone through in such a short little life. I have had a very heavy heart today - the tragic loss of life is enough to give anyone pause. I know for a lot of us that Paula dying is only part of the sadness - it's been a very sad 3 years for that extended family and anyone who's been paying attention realizes this. It's OK to be a bit blue. Anyone who's lost a parent can't help but feel empathy for all four girls. If it starts to consume your life, of course, that's unhealthy - seek help. Paula Yates, Michael Hutchence's Lover, Dies by Emily Farache Sep 18, 2000, 11:00 AM PT Paula Yates, the lover of INXS frontman Michael Hutchence at the time of his 1997 suicide and mother of their child, was found dead in her London apartment on Sunday. Yates, 40, was well known for displaying the torrid details of her private life in full view of the hungry British media--including her breakup with Live Aid guru Bob Geldof and subsequent relationship with Hutchence. So far, British police say they don't know what killed Yates. There was no suicide note and a post-mortem was ruled "inconclusive." A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said more test results were pending, but the death has been labeled "suspicious." The police would not confirm British tabloid reports that an empty vodka bottle and a half-full bottle of painkillers were next to her naked corpse when Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily, Yates' 4-year-old daughter by Hutchence, discovered the body. Traces of heroin and marijuana were also reportedly found on a nightstand. Although Yates was known for her television shows The Tube and The Big Breakfast, she gained international notoriety for her 18-year relationship with Geldof, former lead singer of the chart-topping Boomtown Rats, and its subsequent made-for-the-tabloids breakup due to her affair with Hutchence. She and Hutchence were buying a house in Australia when the rocker was found hanging in a hotel room in 1997. His death was ruled a suicide, but Yates questioned the finding of the investigation, saying she never believed he would take his own life. She has since suffered through several bouts of depression. Yates had three daughters with Geldof and one with Hutchence. Geldof said in a statement: "We are all so sad. The loss for all the children is insupportable. Leave the children with their loss and Paula with her dignity." In Sydney, Hutchence's father said he was "absolutely shocked and saddened" by Yates death. "As far as the custody of Tiger is concerned, I feel she's in very good hands," Hutchence told a local TV station, referring to Geldof. "She was a good mother," the elder Hutchence added. This is from todays Telegraph. Hutchence's Half-Sister Consults Lawyers on Custody September 19, 2000 1:54 am EST CANBERRA, Australia (Reuters) - The half-sister of late rock star Michael Hutchence has begun legal moves to seek custody of her orphaned niece, Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily, after the death of mother Paula Yates, an Australian newspaper said Tuesday. Sydney's Daily Telegraph said Tina Hutchence and her mother, Patricia Glassop, had consulted lawyers in London with a view to starting custody proceedings for the four-year-old who is currently being cared for by Yates' ex-husband Sir Bob Geldof. "This is worth fighting for," Hutchence told the newspaper from her home in Burbank, California. "I will go as far and as long as it takes to win this battle for Tiger's sake." Hutchence said she was the logical choice to care for Tiger Lily even though she had an acrimonious relationship with Yates and had not seen the youngster for more than two years. Yates, 40, was found dead at her London home Sunday morning by her young daughter. Her Australian boyfriend, the INXS star Hutchence, who was the father of Tiger Lily, was found hanged in 1997 a Sydney hotel room in November 1997. Relations between Yates and Hutchence's family had been strained ever since. Tina Hutchence and her mother are about to publish a book on the rock star's death called "Just a Man: The Real Michael Hutchence." Hutchence's father. Kell, 68, who in 1998 launched an unsuccessful legal action to gain custody of his granddaughter, said he was unsure what the future held for Tiger Lily. He ruled out seeking custody because of his age and ill-health. "My heart goes out to Tiger Lily," he told the newspaper. "Questions have been raised about Tiger's future and all I can say is that she is in good hands at present...I will be talking to the various parties who have Tiger's future welfare at heart to see what arrangements will be made." 3DOM Angusted From: "Gail Warren" To: "Multiple recipients of INXS-List" Sent: Tuesday, September 19, 2000 4:56 AM Subject: INXS: Michael blamed for Paula's death In the daily telegraph today, it sounds like they actually blame Michael for Paula's death. From their article - "After Hutchence hanged himself in a Sydney hotel room in 1997, she wore the tragedy like a shroud. The misery of being without him never left her. She had his ashes sewn inside a cushion she kept on her bed at home. "If comforts us that he is here", she would say. One has to question whether he was worth such devotion for, until she met Hutchence, Paula was not particularly interested in drugs. She was titillatingly flirtatious and lively-and attractive enough for the Princess of Wales's brother Charles Althrop (now Earl Spencer) to try to woo her away from Geldof. Her life was always dramatic and fanciful. Paula grew up believing, for example, she was the daughter of television presenter Jess "The Bishop" Yates, only to discover three years ago her real father was Hughie Green, creator of the Opportunity Knocks talent show. It was Hutchence who opened a dark new world to her. "Hutchence introduced her to some terrible habits," her friend said yesterday. "She may have adored him forever but in my view he destroyed her." The cushion of ashes was close by on her bed when she was found yesterday morning. Even if Hutchence had lived, one can be pretty sure the magic of the deeply sexual affair which lasted 3 years would have worn off. She would have got on well enough without him, just as she did when she and Geldof first began to drift apart." I was thinking, admist the tragedy of recent events, the one person that would be suffering the most (don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are heaps of ppl distraught over Paula Yates's death) little Tiger Lily. It's so sad that both her parents have died under such tragic conditions, although we will never know the truth, there are enough rumours out there, for Tiger to get the wrong idea about her parents, that they didn't care enough about her to stay in this world. So what I'm proposing is, that we all band together and make a memorial site for Tiger, with pictures, articles, anything on Michael, Paula and Tiger together. I'm thinking we should make this site, so in years to come Tiger can have something to look at, a place to go to seek solace, a place filled with the happy memories, she'd be too young to remember, of times where her two parents were happy together with her. I've got a fair few mag articles and pics, I can scan, and I'm also willing to write to some Aussie mags, to see if they'd be willing to contribute. So let me know if you all think this is a good idea. I know nothing about making web pages, so that's why I'm seeking help form this list, but I'm also asking you all, to dig around for any pics you can contribute. I'm sure this is somethign we could all do, despite our lack of talents, just being able to share pics or whatever would be good, even poems you may wish to write, etc. Okay, I'm jibbering now, so let me know if you all think this is a good idea, and would like to make it happen. Also, I have just got a copy of the InterActive Songbook of INXS-Greatest Hits, (yes, I returned it to the store, and got the second cd). I think that Kick left an impact on the world in 1988---that was the year of INXS. Therefore, this "Inxs" whould perform something familiar so that they will be recognized by the rest of the world. You know, I've been thinking so hard on what to say about this whole tragedy with Paula's death and all. I wasn't going to say a thing, but I feel that I should express what I am feeling right now. As some of you know, I've lost so many people that are very dear to me in my life. You would think with all these untimely deaths, it would get easier to deal with, but it doesn't. However, each one always teaches you to value your life and be thankful that you still have loved ones around that love & care about you. I send my deepest sympathy to Paula's family and friends. I'm not a religious freak, but the way I look at things right now is that God will take care of this little girl, Tiger, and he will take it in his own hands what he wants to happen. So, please let's all be patient and not judge anyone who will get custody. Things happen for a reason, I firmly believe that now. So, let's just be happy that nothing happened to precious little Tiger, and let Paula's family grieve in private. I also think what Tim Farriss had to say about the whole thing sums everything up. Believe me I know alot about mourning now, unfortunately. I will miss Paula and ask, for Paula, Michael, Tiger and Paula's family that we show compassion and respect for the fallen. I have not posted in a very long time, but my sympathy for Tiger's situation makes me feel like doing so. I am a children's therapist by profession, and I talk with children every day who have experienced things that are simply horrific. I know the child perspective on the death of a parent, as I am frequently one who is called in to help children heal. The fact that this child found her mother dead, and is orphaned, is terribly tragic. The loss of parental attachments affects everything, from ability to form relationships with other people to personality traits. And what's more, she will likely deal with the grief repeatedly as she grows, since she will understand these matters differently as she matures. I pray that the people around her will provide the consistency and support she needs from this point forth. No doubt many many people care about this little girl. Her needs must come first-regardless of the needs of the adults. Her parents were unable to do that, for their own reasons. No doubt they were not unwilling to put her needs first, but ultimately they did not. There is certainly hope for her to heal, but it will be difficult. I have a lot of compassion for her parents as well. To be in so much turmoil that you would, deliberately or not, be in a situation through your choices to orphan your child, means the both of them must have been deeply struggling. Anyhow, that's my two cents. My other thought in reading the comments about Paula's death, is that it is a shame that human nature is so judgmental and critical of people in life, but when someone dies the living begin to have more charitable attitudes. I do not exclude myself in that, unfortunately. But it is something for all of us to think about. -Kristin From: To: "Multiple recipients of INXS-List" Sent: Tuesday, September 19, 2000 10:33 PM Subject: INXS: Re: tigerlily custody i also think it is for the best that tiger stay in London but the only thing that concerns me is that i think its ironic that here the man that Michael was fighting with and despised up to his death now has temporary custody of his daughter. i don't think this is what he would have wanted even though i think it was the best thing right now. but who knows IM not in Michael's head and we will never know if this is what he would have wanted it to end up like. I know everyone is probably sick of this subject by now but here goes ... The vultures seem to be at it again, Patricia and Tina. Firstly over MH's estate and now over his daughter after such a tragic event. Surely they could just let the dust settle a little and give this tragic situation some dignity. Personally I can't see how they think they could give Tiger an objective upbringing given the way they have criticised Paula over the years and that isn't to say on some occasions they didn't have reason for it. I they may love her but ALL this little girl has got to hang on to is the memories of her mum and to a lesser extent her dad. To have someone or people to colour that in her important years of growing up surely would be another tragedy. Having a little girl just a little older than Tiger I found this to be such a sensitive and somewhat insecure age and I believe she needs a family who can share the good memories of both parents, and give her heaps of love in a normal family life, away from the drug scene. Finally, I am not sure how Tiger could respect people who raised her that didn't have any respect for/or disliked her mother. She needs to cherish the memories of her mother even if she did have some faults, it was still her mother, the most important person in her life. In my opinion this would be damaging. I also agree with Kell that at this time she needs her sisters - people around her she knows. Not to be shipped off across the world to people who have hardly ever had any contact with her. Kell and Rhett on the other hand have maintained all the way through that Paula was a loving and good mother which is more than Patricia and Tina have done. I look at my little girl and thank god it isn't her who is left behind in this tragic situation. Paula cut off MICHAEL'S ENTIRE FAMILY from any contact with Tiger. What would Michael have said about that??? I think Michael has been spinning in his grave up until Sunday, and now he can finally rest knowing that Tiger will get a chance to know her grandparents and her aunt and uncle. Michael's mother and sister wanted to make sure his estate was in proper order, which it was not. The people Michael trusted ripped him off for millions of dollars. If Pat and Tina hadn't sued the estate, they would have been able to steal a lot more than they did and Tiger would have had a much smaller inheritance. Kell sued for custody at one point. Was he a vulture? The real vulture here was Paula. This is a woman who spent her whole life crawling from one bed to another, lying about her drug and alcohol abuse, who threw away her marriage without even mentioning it to her husband and was happy to rub Helena Christainsen's face publicly into the fact that she and Michael were an item. Then she drew Michael up into her lies and drama, lying baldfaced to him on the night that he died! Freaking him out completely. She claimed that Bob had not allowed the children to come to Oz, and insisted on it so much that Michael called Bob in hysterics. She had to convince Michael that Bob was the evil villian, and so many of the good little INXS fans swallowed that one whole. The man had some serious dignity. He watched his marriage get trashed and kept his mouth shut in the press and did everything he could so his girls could have a normal life. And let's face it, she could have hopped on a plane with Tiger in a moment if she really gave a damn about Michael. But no, she had to have it all her way, and too bad if Michael was depressed. The stupidest thing he ever did was take up with her, and it literally killed him. Bob didn't say the girls couldn't come to Oz, the judge ruled that way. The judge said, like any normal parent would, "let them finish their school term and go over the Christmas holidays." Of course, by now, Michael was so depressed and so caught up in Paula's lies that he died that night and we still don't really know what happened. We never will. So what does Paula do next? She runs around screaming that they were engaged, when NO ONE, not Kell, not Rhett, not Belinda Brewin, not INXS confirms it. It was all in her head. She gets drunk on the plane to Oz and trashes a flight attendant. Then she claims one third of Michael's ashes and sews them into a pillow and sleeps with them every night. "Tiger, sweetie, here's your Daddy's dead ashes to play with." And she screwed that junkie she took up with right on top of Michael's bones. I remember an interview where he said exactly that. So now the press tells us, "oh, she was so depressed over Michael's death." Please. This woman was the trauma-drama queen from hell and she milked Michael's death for all she could get out of it, long after any other mother would have picked up the pieces and dedicated her life to her children. And she needed something to keep her on the front page, because as a friend of mine said, she was beginning to look like forty miles of bad road. And who found her naked and surrounded by drugs and laying in a pool of her own vomit? TIGER. I thank God Tiger is out of there. (also about me unsubbing for a day or two) Firstly, I have to address the obvious... the Paula/Bob/Tiger/girls/Hutchences situation. Already I've seen some things I don't like, saying a few not so nice things about Paula. Paula is gone, the woman suffered so much, let her rest in peace. As for the custody thing, from what I've heard, and the countless articles and such I've read, Kell does not want custody of Tiger, which I can understand, it would not be easy taking care of a little girl at his age. I've heard about Tina trying to get custody of Tiger, which I think is definitely a good thing, she'll get to see her family more, I suppose, Tina said in an interview that she's only seen her niece in magazine photos for the past 2 years, which I'm sure is tough on her. There are so many people who want Tiger now, and it's pulling her in so many directions. Right now she's with Bob... As many of you know I was very harsh when I spoke of him before Paula died, but I've calmed down now, and he seems to be in pain over Paula's death, so to say anything mean would be incredibly ignorant of me, I can only hope he's taking good care of Tiger. Also, I might unsubscribe from the list for a day or 2, not because of all this, but because my mail is becoming full, and I have to sort it out, and unsubscribe from another list (non-INXS) that produces about 3 times the mail of this one. I believe Paula loved her children very much but at the same time I don't believe Paula was happy unless she was in some sort of crisis and on the front page of the newspapers getting attention. As for Michael, I think she did a good job of bringing him down. Before he was with her you never saw pictures of him beating up press in the street. It never happened when he was with Helena or Kylie. Paula loved a trauma and I think she managed to manipulate Michael into thinking the whole world was against him. As for Bob, I believe his first and only priority has ever been the children and for now I think Tiger is in extremely good hands. I hope Tiger does get the chance to go to OZ and live with Michaels family but I also hope that Michael's family will let her come back to London and stay with Bob for holidays as after all, his children are her half sisters. I agree with every point Leah made in regards to the stability of Paula and her questionable motives for her actions. I was as shocked over Paula's death as the rest of you. And my heart bleeds for Tiger who was left to wonder why both of her parents chose not to live here on earth with her where they were meant to be. Having a child is the biggest responsibility we are given in life. Children are a gift from God. And they need guidance and love from their parents to grow into strong, responsible and stable adults. Suicide is a totally selfish act! The people who suffer are the loved-ones who are left behind. I have worshipped Michael since the day I first set eyes on him in 1982. But I don't look at him through rose-colored glasses. If he committed suicide I feel he took the easy way out. He cut out of this world with no regard for the feelings of those who loved him most. Now Paula does the same thing? She knew first-hand the effects that Michael's death had on her and her daughter(s). So she goes and traumatizes her children further? I don't get these people. I am a mother of three girls. I adore my husband! God forbid he wasn't here suddenly. He is my world. I certainly wouldn't want to f &% k my kids up any worse by killing myself to be with him. I'm sure it would be a very appealing idea. But my responsibility would lie with the well being of my children. Not with my own selfish needs. When you have kids your needs come second PERIOD. Enough of my sermon. I'd like to play Devil's advocate for a change. ( LOL ) I think Bob may have killed both Michael and Paula. Not by his own hand. But couldn't he have had them killed? Each of their deaths were ruled inconclusive by the respective coroners. Isn't that a little odd? Both Michael and Paula were said to have been in good spirits just prior to their deaths. Very strange indeed!!! And look who ends up with custody of he and Paula's kids. Here is a man who's wife suddenly leaves him for the guy who's picture is on the refrigerator. Isn't that a major slap in the face. He may have planned this whole revenge scheme. I wouldn't be surprised to see a movie of the week on this threesome in the near future. The statement is a joint one between the singer and his wife, Ali, and it reads: 'Our first thought are for the four girls. It's their tragedy more than anyone's. We know Bob [Geldof] is a great dad. They are a strong family but still our heart breaks.' Bono and Ali were great pals with Paula and both her ex-husband, Bob Geldof, and her late boyfriend, INXS frontman Michael Hutchence. I know it's sad that Tiger has lost both her parents now (in the most tragic of circumstances) but what about being sad for Paula, a lot has been said on the list about how everyone is so sad for poor Tiger, but is anyone sad for the loss of Paula??? I'm sure we are! I mean, any type of loss I find sad. I never dis-liked Paula, I never really liked her either. I never really thought much of her to tell you the truth, but that doesn't mean to say I don't think it's sad she died. I think it's really sad she died, and the circumstances under which she did, even sadder. No one is ever gonna know what REALLY happened, to both Paula or Michael, although that's not gonna stop ppl from rumours. I've been there, my cousin died of what ppl said was suicide from a drug overdose. I didn't ever find out how she really did die, I don't think anyone even could, even from an autopsy, how can one person who has never met this girl come to some conclusion on how she died, from one meeting with her, when she can't even speak or show any emotion. I loved your comment Erica, on how we can't call them Saints or Satans, we are just humans. I mean, Michael could be classified as Satan, if you take into account of the stuff he did, drugs, etc. I'm not saying I think Michael was bad or anything, I'm merely stating he was just like Bob- A HUMAN! Who does things that aren't good sometimes, but does things that are other times. Look at Bob, was it not he who was behind the charity concert Live Aid??? I mean we all do wrong and sinful things, but that shouldn't be what we should remember about a person, it shoudl be the good things, and I'm sure there are heaps of good things we could remember about Paula, Michael and well anyone. I really think this is a take home lesson here. Anyway, I think I'll leave it there, before I make a fool of myself. Let the dust settle - she is hardly cold and they start fighting over Tiger publicly. Paula still loved her children, maybe not enough to give up her addictions unfortunately, but THE POINT I was making was let her children believe that, particularly Tiger, given she doesn't have anything else accept hopefully some memories - let those be good ones. I don't think shipping her off to strangers, Tina and Patricia, away from her sisters, is the best for her but that is my view. They didn't have much good to say about her when she was alive and I'm not sure they will have now she is dead. Let the dust settle - she is hardly cold and they start fighting over Tiger publicly. I still wonder whose interest they had in mind when fighting the estate war - and sorry, but that is my opinion - and that is all it is. It would be nice that everyone could have contact with her so she knows how much she is loved - even by us. Jam From: "Danielle ." Yates, who was found dead last Sunday at her home in London's trendy Notting Hill district, will be laid to rest at noon in the Church of Mary Magdalene in Davington, near the town of Faversham, in Kent, southeast England. The cause of Yates's death is still unknown but British media reports say an empty vodka bottle and a partly empty bottle of painkillers lay by her naked body. She lived a fast and furious life and had a well-publicized battle with alcohol and drugs. Police are treating the death of the 41-year-old former TV presenter as suspicious until the cause of death has been established. An inquest was opened on Wednesday and immediately adjourned until November 8 as more tests had to be conducted. The funeral in the 12th century church is expected to attract a list of celebrities, including ex-Beatle Sir Paul McCartney and Jools Holland, a musician who used to work with Yates in television, British newspapers said. The tiny church is next to Davington Priory, the home Yates shared with Geldof while they were married. Yates and Geldof were married in Las Vegas in 1986 and together they had three daughters -- Fifi Trixibelle, 17, Peaches 11, and Pixie 10. Yates and Geldof were divorced in 1996 and shortly after she gave birth to her fourth child, four-year-old Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily Hutchence. The father was Australian rock star Michael Hutchence, the leader of the INXS band who Yates said was the love of her life. He was found hanged in a Sydney hotel room in 1997. Tiger Lily found her mother in bed on Sunday morning and tried to awaken her. The orphaned girl is being cared for by Geldof, who now lives in London with French actress Jeanne Marine. Yates refused to accept that Hutchence's death was suicide, insisting it was a sex game that went wrong. After he died she was reported to have been treated several times for depression. Yates rose to fame in the 1980s as a flirtatious celebrity TV interviewer on the Channel Four music show ``The Tube'' and later on the early-morning program ``The Big Breakfast.'' When she interviewed Hutchence they were both in bed, legs interlocked. After she was sacked by the The Big Breakfast in 1995, she went on to be a provocative columnist and author of 12 books, her subjects ranging from baby care to the sexual attractions of the famous. She also wrote about her life in a frank autobiography in 1995. I agree with several of the view points aired, but I don't think we have the right to judge people we don't really know. That said it is human nature to do so and although I never knew Michael personally, I did feel I had a special bond with him due to the nature of his music. This is something I'm sure we all shared with him and the band in our own way. However, we must all recognize that the relationship between an artist and a fan isn't a 'real' one, Tiger is not our daughter, sister or friend. She is the daughter of an artist who's music we all love and know well. By the same token Paula has died which like when anybody dies is very sad, but it isn't really right for us to judge her. As Michael once said 'Words are weapons sharper than knives'. The list has contained a lot of negative mail this week and I don't want to add to that. Personally, the thing I have always loved about Inxs is the way their music uplifts me. Whatever life throws my way their music always gets smiling, singing & tapping along (and playing air guitar as well if I'm in the mood!!!!!). So lets all remain positive in these negative times. I dabble in astrology, and he does have the chart of an old man. Sun: Aquarius Moon: Scorpio Ascendant: Capricorn (For those of you who care.) Also, I believe that Michael and Paula might have been soulmates. In the realm of metaphysics, your soulmate is not necessarily someone with whom you ride into the sunset and live happily ever after. Your soulmate is someone with whom you have major unfinished business; someone with whom you are eternally connected. It seems obvious that Paula and Michael were karmically connected. Sir Bob is driven from the funeral service today BREAKING NEWS By SUN ONLINE REPORTER DOZENS of showbiz celebrities today turned out to pay their last respects to TV star Paula Yates. The star's funeral was held amid tight security in a private service in St Mary Magdalene church in Davington, Kent. The star's ex-husband Sir Bob Geldof, the couple's three children, and Paula's other daughter, Tiger Lily, were the chief mourners. Paula, 41, was found dead last Sunday at her home at Notting Hill, west London by Tiger Lily, her child by the late INXS singer Michael Hutchence. Around 100 mourners gathered at the church in the grounds of her former home, 12th century manor house The Priory, where she lived with Sir Bob for many years. Tributes ... lilies adorn the cream coffin The service took place where her marriage to Sir Bob was blessed 14 years ago and where the couple's daughters Fifi Trixibelle, 17, Peaches, 10, and Pixie, seven, were baptised. A string of celebrities including Jools Holland, who was her co-presenter on The Tube, singers Bono from U2, Paul Young and Annie Lennox, supermodel Yasmine Le Bon, fashion designer Jasper Conran and actor Rupert Everett all attended. Friends and family fought back tears as close pals Bono and Jools Holland performed a moving song called Blue Skies in tribute to Paula. But tot Tiger Lily seemed unaware of the sombre mood and bounced happily on a friend's knee throughout the emotional 55-minute service. Afterwards Sir Bob, accompanied by his youngest daughters Peaches, 10, and Pixie, seven, as well as Tiger Lily, left in a black limousine for the cremation at nearby Charing. Paula’s mother Helene Thornton, who had not spoken to the star for years, followed in a taxi. In another car Paula's eldest daughter Fifi Trixibelle, 17, was comforted by the presenter’s friend and publicist Belinda Brewin. So sad ... Sir Bob The hearse carrying the light cream coffin, covered in deep pink lilies and surrounded with wreaths, led the procession. More than 100 mourners remained at Geldof’s home awaiting the return of the funeral cortege. Dozens of villagers from Davington also gathered outside the church to pay their last respects. Lynda Morley, 31, said: "We saw her around the village a lot. She always seemed friendly and clearly enjoyed being here. It’s very tragic." B; some people think in terms of "once you get on VH1's behind the music, it means they are basically telling the story of a band that was popular at one time, isn't anymore, so let's talk about when they were." i know they don't do this in some cases, elton john, red hot chili peppers, etc. but most of the time its boys george, vanilla ice, leif garret (eew) catch my drift? and C; michael was the center of INXS. although we all love the other members and think its wrong they didn't get as much publicity as he did, other people (who aren't die-hard fans like us) know little of the other members and wouldn't really know too much about the whole concept of andrew, tim, jon, kirk, and garry being INXS as well. i don't mean to totally dis your idea angel, infact it would be sorta cool, i just don't want people to think INXS are has-beens or that they are making too much a big deal on michael and his death. ok? ok. see ya later! erica From: "INXSED 2" To: "Multiple recipients of INXS-List" Sent: Sunday, September 24, 2000 3:03 PM Subject: INXS: Re: : INXS Behind the Music Sting isn't out of the public eye-he's still popular and making albums, so why not do one on INXS? I have been looking forward to one on INXS since the Michael documentary. Plus, if nonfans don't know much about the rest of the band and their earlier work, then what better way to learn? It's a popular channel and a popular show. In 1988 MTV made an excellent Rockumentary on INXS and I love to watch it every now and then because it's fascinating and shows their rare, early 80s footage that normally was not shown on MTV. I think it's a good idea, but I guess if the VH1 BTMs are all thought of as features on has-beens, then forget it. I never really thought about it that way entirely, because they don't always feature has-beens or stars of the 70s-80s. On another note, I watched the May 2000 performance of INXS with Jon Stevens from inxs.com and was truly impressed with Jon Stevens' performance. This was the first time I was exposed to Jon, both voice and stage presence, and think he did a remarkable job in the accuracy of the lyrics and the way Michael used to sing every note. Erica and all, It's not so much that people don't care, but that they just don't understand. They don't have the relationship that we have with INXS and they don't understand how important every little thing is that goes on in the INXS world. Paula's death has rocked our world. Thank God we have each other with whom to discuss it, even if we argue amongst ourselves about it. Another thing to remember is that sometimes people are having a bad day and they just snarl back at you, not because of anything you did or said, but because they are hurting and they want someone else to hurt too. I know it's hard, but that's a good time to think, "that person is suffering. What can I do to help them?" instead of being hurt at what they said. That piece of advice comes from the book Alcoholics Anonymous. We are lucky to have each other talk to and fight with and disagree with. We all care deeply about INXS and that's what counts. Hello Leia and all, Yes, as one who subbed to this list right after Michael died, I have to say, between the discussions on the list, and the great list friends that I made, I managed to get thru Michael's death and gain some perspective on it. That was a great benefit to lots of us at the time, and has continued since. And one person's opinion is no more important or valid than anyone else's. So I guess if the discussion presently bothers you, then just delete the messages until things settle down, and let the ones who need to talk it out, have that opportunity. Patricia From: To: "Multiple recipients of INXS-List" Sent: Sunday, September 24, 2000 11:31 PM Subject: INXS: the times article I'm glad someone posted this article. I found it to be quite interesting. Paula really seemed to have some serious emotional problems. It feels bad when you can't sleep. Agoraphobia must be something else to deal with also. I love going out to the malls and talking to people. It kind of reminds me of that movie Copycats with Harry Connick, Jr. and Sigourney Weaver. I love the therapy she had--going out into a garden for an hour. Being surrounded by nature is quite therapeutic for me as well. I disagree with her doing the childrens' homework. How are they supposed to learn anything if she is doing all their homewok. For most children, homework helps in that it reinforces what was learned in class. Anyone know why she slept with everyone in one bed? I couldn't imagine sharing a bed with more than one person. I'm not making fun, I am just curious. I know that for most children here in the US they sleep by themselves by the time they are 3 or years of age. Also, isn't breast-feeding for really long periods of time bad for a child. M y cousin breast feed her son for about 2-2.5 years and his little teeth were rotten because of it according to the dentist. I love the fact that she bases life more on love than on the occupation you hold. She's right about life being about the people you love. I admire her taking care of the children like she did. I think it's cute how she and Tiger would go to the cafe and eat everyday after she picked her up from the nursery. Hey Patricia, I agree completely with you. I do believe that the civilized world should have the freedom of speech, and I believe that on this list people come to talk to other INXS fans, because they feel that they can and they feel a need to express their thoughts. I can understand not wanting to read 150 emails about the same subject, if you aren't interested in it, or if you are tired of hearing about it, but hey, that's what the delete button is there for! Use it when in need. All you have to do is read the subject line and click.......poof, it's gone. That's what is so nice about the computer Ü So, let's all try to play nice and allow some freedom and democracy, not dictatorship----that's the way I feel about it, anyway. On today's CD NOW's All Star News there is a small "Miss Truth" note saying something about Michael: =============================================== Sep 25, 2000 The Doors with Michael Hutchence? Ask anyone. The late and highly charismatic Michael Hutchence was in many respects the modern day embodiment of the Doors' ageless Lizard King and high poet, Jim Morrison. The INXS frontman certainly conjured up those visions in the mind's eye of former Doors keyboards player, Ray Manzarek when he first saw the Australian outfit on MTV. Ironically, prior to Hutchence's tragic death there were plans to bring the two parties together for a one-off alliance that would span two generations. "We [the surviving members of the Doors] were going to actually play with him on a TV show." says Manzarek. "I guess it was some award show, one of those national, God knows what it was, some big TV show. We were going to fly down to Sydney to play and that never quite happened and then he dies! One of the great tragedies that is Michael Hutchence is not on the [Doors'] tribute album."
