We drove up to Banff and had a drink at the Hard Rock Cafe and they had an INXS guitar, signed by all the members of the band. Then, just as we were leaving, they started to show "INXS, live at the Hard Rock Cafe" over the monitors. I only got to stay for a few minutes, but that sure made my trip. Of course I think we annoyed the hell out of the guy who was sitting at the table under the guitar. We just kind of took over and we were taking pictures and looking at it. Then I think he was annoyed even further when I came back a few minutes later with my son and showed him. Oh, well. It was worth it. Very exciting for this small town girl. The good news is that DLYH is playing in the background! Hopefully the song will find its way onto the station's playlist. You may remember that I mentioned how EW (the single) received lots of airplay on MMM. Unfortunately, the second single 'Everything' didn't get any airplay at all. This won't have helped album sales. IMHO, virtually any other song off EW should have been released as the second single in Australia. I don't want to be too harsh or cynical, but some people would've dismissed 'Everything', saying it shows INXS is trying too hard to gain popularity with the teens. I'd like to finish on a positive note. Last weekend MMM counted down the top 104 "Lost Classics" - ie songs that don't get much airplay but that have received lots of requests. I didn't listen to the whole countdown, but I did catch "Just Keep Walking" at #25. Cheers, Bruno A. Here in the supposed 'Heart of Rock n Roll' Cleveland, Oh, we get the standard Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins O.D., plus some interesting local stuff occasionally. I'm down to one station I can trust to at least play new rock music for those days I put my INXS tapes out of reach in my car in order to force myself to listen to something else. Most days, though, there is an INXS tape resting in the player, and as soon as something irritating comes out of the radio (average time lapse for this to occur: 0-15 minutes), in goes the tape. I taped EW back to back on a tape for my car, and it's been playing in an endless loop since it was released. Have to get psyched up for the Nautica appearance here on the 24th, you know. Like I need help to get psyched up for that. Has anyone out there who shares Cleveland radio with me heard Everything at all? When Face Off came out, the radio ads played DLYH and said "with the new hit single from INXS" -- but I never heard it on the radio. No one gave it a chance to become a hit. However, don't expect the surviving bandmembers to even kiss and make up much less record new tracks. They're still in court. The project, Fogerty cautions, is in its formative stages, no contracts are in place, but he lists Jewel (singing "Have You Ever Seen the Rain"), Tracy Chapman ("Proud Mary"), Ray Charles and INXS (together on "Long As I Can See The Light," INXS solo on "Hey Tonight"), John Hiatt ("Lodi"), P-Funk ("Suzie Q"), Los Lobos ("Bad Moon Rising"), the Neville Brothers ("Down on the Corner") and others among the many affirmatives. He's in talks with the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Aerosmith, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, Metallica, Travis Trit and Motley Crue. The record, with a total of 36 artists, would be a double CD sold for the price of a single CD with all the proceeds going to The Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Fogerty's also been working on getting donations of studio time, gear, transportation, hotels and other items. While the project is figuratively bringing together musicians and Creedence fans, it's apparently doing nothing to unite CCR. But Radio one are usually pretty perfectic and tend to play the same songs all day round and round again, they seem to own a maximum of 8 tracks at a time. It gets a bit like chinese water torture so I don't tend to listen to them. On the plus side Virgin radio (owned by Richard branson) plays INXS all the time, both EW and Everything got loads of play. They also play alot of the tracks from Kick. Virgin do tend to play alot more rock bands and more variety than just tracks in the top 20 at the time. Virgin also use INXS in one of their advertising posters it reads: Great music INXS For a New Sensation in radio which to Virgin. So it always makes me happy when a bus drives past with that poster that there is still good taste in the world. On a brighter note, after reading everyones messages yesterday regarding INXS's limited airplay ( esp in the States) i entered my car not very optimistic however I decided that I would give the radio another go.Something beyond explanation made me reach over and turn it on."Now playing more variety than ever" the announcer proclamed at the end of the ads. Following that was what made my day-the beginning to Beautiful Girl-and what a beginning it is.So i suppose here in Perth, OZ i shouldn't really complain. I have heard nearlly all of INXS's major single releases since '84(exept for Suicide Blond-which i request whenever possible but always get the response "we played one from them last hour") on radio but with less frequency as time goes by. In the past two days they played Taste it, Need you tonight and a very cool mix of Suicide blonde!! Everything still gets played as much though. I just thought I'd share that 2cents worth as well. I don't know whether anyone would find this interesting or boring at all, but I taped an interview they had with Mike and Tim on local South African TV on the night they opened their world tour in Cape Town. Its only about 15 minutes long, and they showed the EW video afterwards. I think its a real cool interview, and the boys looked quite excited and happy about the start of their world tour, and making silly jokes. They also showed a clip of the mini unplugged show they did for our local radio station. People at work only looked at me as if I came from Mars, cuz I chased them all out of my office and sat in the corner of my office with the radio stuck to my ear. (smiling form ear to ear) Can you imagine my excitement when I heard Mikes's voice on our local radio station. I mean, for South Africa, that is something! The same radio station also called Mike a couple of weeks before they came out here, and did a short interview with him over the phone. Once again, he really sounded excited about going to Africa. And once again... I didn't know about this, and couldn't tape it, cuz I was in my car. Still, it made me soooo happy! They were making jokes about Mike punching out the dude from the press, and joking about him buying a house over here. (nooo nooo, he is not even considering it). I think they really enjoyed being in "Africa", and if I remember correctly, Tim said he is still wearing his safari suits that he got over here! PS: Safari suits must be the ugliest outfits you have ever seen in your life! O.K. maybe this posting is getting a little bit too long. I promise I will keep quiet for a while. It is a WWW Interactive Music Chart. It will have EW on it next week. If we all vote for it once, or as many times as we can, we can get it in the top 30 possibly. http://www.ozemail.com.au/~pmckin/chtsong.htm From: cannon96@usa.net Date: Thu, 07 Aug 1997 08:42:02 To: inxs-list@iastate.edu Subject: [INXS] Re: Everything Sender: owner-inxs-list@iastate.edu Reply-To: inxs-list@iastate.edu Radio airplay here in Fredericton, Canada is pretty poor. EW was played very little and I haven't heard Everything on the radio yet. In fact, I am not sure if it has been released in Canada. Maybe I'm behind the times, but starting about two weeks ago, our music video station Much Music has played "Don't Lose Your Head" from the movie Face/Off (and the new album) at a pretty reasonable rotation considering the crap they usually push.
