How about "Hi"? To: INXS List Message-Id: Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; CHARSET=US-ASCII Hey everyone! It was a pretty good summer. damn relaxing. I just went through the 100 or so messages that were posted on the list this summer.... so.... 1. I saw INXS on May 18th at the Academy here in NYC. Damn good show. Actually, the best show I have ever gone to. 2 ft. away from the band, having Michael nod at me with approval when he saw that only I and one other girl knew the lyrics to "Just Keep Walking".... is it just me or did all of the new songs sound very Xish??? nevertheless, A+. 2. Full Moon Dirty Hearts will be released in November, with the first single (tentatively still "The Gift") to hit airwaves in October. That's courtesy of the INXS Fan club. 3. Someone asked about info on the "Get Out of the House Tour". If anyone is interested, I know someone who has 15 or so double-sided pages of reviews and other stuff. she's asking $7. I think it was worth it. 4. Someone said they taped the Sydney show from last year. Please contact me! I'd love to get my hands on a copy..... 5. Q magazine did a cover story on the "Get out of the House Tour" in August. It was a great article from a behind-the-scenes perspective of the tour. Definitely get it. (Heehee, I am also in the picture taken at the Academy show, which amused me.....) Neil. The first disc opens with Beautiful Girl and then moves into "Ashtar Speaks", a rather poor Bside by INXS standards that is a Kirk Pengilly solo. "In My Living Room", written by Tim Farriss, is by far one of the best singles that I have heard from INXS in terms of B-sides. The song opens with a Muslim apparently calling out from a minaret or simply chanting a prayer, and then opens with a vicious beat and guitar riff. Awesome awesome song. (though not your ordinary INXS song either...). The Cd closes with the original mix of "Strange Desire", which I hated at first b/c it was essentially instrumental. The more you hear it, though, you begin to discern Hutchence murmuring and breathing words that I can't make out yet over the definitely "strange" song. This is a weird one, but not unworthy. 2. The second disc is better in my opinion. A limited edition box release, it comes with photos/postcards from the Beautiful Girl video that was so highly acclaimed. The Cd opens with BG, and is followed by the demo mix of strange desire. Then comes the gem of the disc - the Chicken Mix of "Underneath the Colours". Their hit (?) 1981 single is given a brand new funk beat beneath it, and this song lives again! Well worth checking out. Finally, the maxi ends with the instrumental version of "Wishing Well". I never really thought about how seductive and well-orchestrated is the music in this song until I heard this version. It's pretty damn good. Well, there they are! These are both UK Imports, being that a maxi single was not released here in the United States. Neil. Hmm, I think you're hearing things. Being a fan of both groups, I find the songs totally different from each other. I hope you don't think that INXS originally thought up of the concept that the two songs do share. If you want to find a HUGE similarity, how 'bout "Mediate" and Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues"? Everything right down to the video. An obvious homage to Dylan. Many others were, too numerous to mention. And yes, the video was a homage to Dylan. But of course, Michael Hutchence has much more class. In fact, Dylan was extremely enthusiastic about the Mediate project, and supposedly helped out in many ways. The video was one take only if you didn't know, btw. Anyway, here's the latest INXS info that I got from 'Music Week' (The UK's trade mag) over the last few weeks. 'Full Moon, Dirty Hearts' is released in the UK on November 11. The title track is a duet with Chrissie Hynde (sp?). The album was produced with Chris Kimsey although some re-recording of the drums and bass was done last month...I don't know who with. Michael and Andrew did the mixing. 'The Gift' is out here on October 11. The songs already been on heavy rotation on Radio One for the last week. It's not bad...not what you'd expect. A lot of strange effects on the vocals and a 'wheee-ah' guitar noise in the background that sounds like it might actually be a sample in some places. I haven't had a chance to tape it yet to check. The first time I heard it I didn't really listen to it...it was only when it got near the end I realised that it was INXS! Anyway, the video has already been played on MTV Europe (also heavy rotation) but unfortunately I haven't been able to see it yet. A mate of mine who has says that it is quite good...the band are playing and Hutchence is overlaid on the top, zooming in and out and wearing a red blouse(?). I'll reserve judgement on that until I see it myself. IMHO, I think that this single is either going to be huge or it's going to drop like a stone. No inbetweens here. It just depends on the public's reaction. In an interview in 'Rock CD' over here, Hutchence was bemoaning the fact that on the 'Get Out...' tour, hardly any of the old INXS fans were there and they gigs were full of little screaming girls. He thinks everyone's deserted him I think. What do you all have to say about that? I'll try and find out some more, and I'll post it right away this time. Cheers, Stewart. < schristi@music.gla.ac.uk > PS As someone was saying in a previous post...watch out for tickets on sale VERY soon. From what I remember, a US Tour starts to coincide with the album release, with Europe around Feb. Hello. Now seems like an appropriate time to share some information with you about the video for "The Gift." Last week, in the memo I received from the INXS fan club, some brief news was announced. Firstly, it indicated that, during the week of September 13, the video would have its world premiere on MTV. Maybe it was referring to MTV Europe, as another poster has said that the video is currently in rotation over there. Here in the U.S., I don't believe it's been played yet. Also, it said that the video was directed by Richard Lowenstein and was filmed in Melbourne and Sydney, taking over three months to produce. Here is some info, excerpted from the article: "The video uses harrowing visuals in order to portray man's ability to create havoc and destruction. The message behind the video is to show how as viewers, we have become accepting of, and increasingly apathetic to images of gross human suffering and violence. INXS are scheduled to shoot another eleven state-of-the-art videos in Australia during September '93, to be screened as a visual special to launceh the new album, due otu on Atlantic REcords on November 2, 1993." Sincerely, Jim P.S.- - This morning, "The Gift" had its radio premiere in Cleveland, courtesy of WENZ 107.9 ("The End"). Also, it was announced that the earlier reported concert for November 23 was unofficial information, at this point. However, I called the station and they assured me it was pretty reliable. You've been added to the INXS e-mail list...the INXS list is a simple unmoderated mail reflector...no digest format is in the works, as the traffic rarely warrants it, and I don't really have the time to deal with setting one up. There really isn't an FAQ as such, but there are a few guidelines that I ask people to follow: 1) Please be respectful of other peoples' ideas, opinions, lifestyles, etc... The point of this forum is to allow people with a common interest exchange information in a friendly, casual atmosphere. Everyone has something to offer, so anyone that wants to post, as long as it's more or less relevant to the list topic, should be able to without fear of getting flamed. 2) Try not to unnecessarily quote other people's posts...the volume on here isn't that great that people can't remember what was said. If you do need to use their text to follow-up or whatever, make sure you edit out ALL of their mail headers and stuff, and only use the lines that are necessary... reposting 40 lines to add a two-line comment on the end is very annoying. 3) It is general netiquette to not have a signature file that is more than four lines long...your ASCII rendition of the Mona Lisa may very well be a work of fine art, but after seeing it half a dozen times in a week, it starts to get old, not to mention wasting bandwidth. 4) ALL administrative stuff (subscribes, unsubscribes, address changes, etc.) go to the admin address: inxs-list-request@iastate.edu All comments, ideas, etc. are welcome...this list is here for you to use, not for me to control...have fun!
