First I'd like to offer a welcome back to people that are returning from vacations...things were a bit slow this summer, but hopefully with more people we'll be able to get things rolling again. I'll use this occasion also as sort of an ad hoc FAQ...here are some things I'd like you to remember: -this list is umoderated, in the sense that I retain no control over what gets sent through the mirror...the list is for you, and you should decide what is and is not discussed on the list. the only power I retain is this: if the majority of the people on the list make a decision regarding list content and someone persists in violating that decision, I will first warn them, and if necessary, remove them. we haven't had any real trouble, but I thought it would be nice to get that out of the way now -administrative requests should be sent to inxs-list-request@iastate.edu, not the main mirror address...nobody but myself can remove you from the list, so they really don't need to hear about it. this has gotten better, and the worst offenders are usually new people, and this message won't help them all that much. I am planning on composing a brief FAQ to send to people when they join the list to make them aware from the outset how I run this list. -I am currently planning on archiving actual list messages, effective now. I don't know how/if I can make them easily available to the public, but I will store them in hopes that some nice person will offer space on an ftp site or tell me how to make them ftpable. Anyhow, I moved all my gifs and jpegs to my Macintosh, so I should have ample space for saving mail now :-) Well, that's about it...if you have any questions, feel free to mail me directly and ask them. Glad to have everyone back, and have fun! Hutch has a few miscues, as I think the songs he wrote (I think there are only two) are the weakest on the album, but overall, the material is far more passionate than, say, _X_. Plus, Hutch puts a lot more drive into his singing than he did on the last INXS album. In fact, musically it's quite diverse, much like WTWYA, and I think you'd do well to have a 90 minute tape with Max Q and WTWYA on it! To date, I've only met one other person who actually owns the album, though. It really didn't make a dent over here. I'm sure more netters have it, but I think it's worthwhile for any INXS fan. But, hey, I even have _Dogs In Space_, which I still like, on video tape...... Nick Dominic M. Anyone else got feelings on Max Q, or don't people even know >who Max Q is? >Andrew It's quite strange how this appeared in my mailbox today...I was just listening to the album. Anyway, over here in the UK there wasn't really much publicity for 'Max Q' or any of the singles. Due to this I think 'Sometimes' only reached about 69 in the top 75 for one week, although it was quite popular in the dance clubs at the time. The album didn't do too well either. I remember reading an interview with Michael Hutchence a couple of years ago and he sounded quite pissed off with the lack of promotion for the album. He seemed to think that Phonogram didn't like the idea of him working with Ollie Olsen (for political reasons, I think) and were really wanting INXS in the studio to record their album. I've got a DJ 12" of the 'Sometimes' single and the 'Future Mix' is amazing. Really intense. One of the things I find about the album is that the more you listen to it, the more you hear. I love its complexity. It's just a shame that more people haven't heard it. Stewart PS In answer to your statement about Max Q and recent INXS, yes, I agree wholeheartedly. Its had been planned to be released in September, but I just found out it has slipped out to November (even exact dates tend to slip around, so when they just pin it down to a month, there's usually very little hope that it will actually be released then... at least until the release has slipped out the required amount of times ;^) Doug Received: from mailhub.iastate.edu by po-5.iastate.edu id AA12661; Sun, 29 Aug 93 03:45:38 -0500 From: klappala@vinkku.hut.fi Received: from lk-hp-7.hut.fi by mailhub.iastate.edu id AA19014; Sun, 29 Aug 1993 03:44:00 -0500 Received: by lk-hp-7.hut.fi (5.65c8/8.0/S-TeKoLa) id AA12988; Sun, 29 Aug 1993 11:43:42 +0300 Message-Id: <199308290843.AA12988@lk-hp-7.hut.fi> Subject: Is INXS's Michael Michael Hutchence or Michael Rutherford?
